Define for me what constitutes a giraffe?

I have 4 unicycles that might qualify but I need clarification.

To be called a giraffe does a unicycle need to be taller than normal?

To be called a giraffe does a tall unicycle need to be chain driven?

I'll wait for the answers before adding myself to the count.

I would define a giraffe as any unicycle where the cranks are not attached directly to the hub/axle of the bottom wheel and are positioned directly above it, not of to one side (as in tandem or recumbant unicycles). This would include multi-wheeled unicycles and most chain driven unicycles. Perhaps it should be also added that to qualify as a giraffe, the unicycle must raise one higher than a standard 36" unicycle would, since some chain-driven unicycles are actually far smaller than even the average 20" unicycle.

But why did he have to give us quite so much of it?

e: Giraffe Count

I own 2 unicycles.

Unis Running Total : 103

I own one "Giraffe" (DM two wheeler, fits the definition given by jsm,
feel free to argue!

Giraffes Running Total: 16

Riders Running Total: 15

Should we be recording the total height as well so we can get an
average height?

Cheers,

Roger (not that one)

Er, a confession. I wanted to see what happened when you post from
groups.google.com and for some reason it wouldn't let me reply to the
existing posts properly. It doesn't let you have a subject beginning
with "Re: " unless it thinks you are replying to an existing post, so I
just removed the first R... I guessed people would figure out it was a
reply.

I forgot it works slightly differently on the web interface.

Cheers,

Roger

So a mini-giraffe would not be a giraffe? While this one would? Fine with me but you see that qualification is not trivial.

I am going to include my mini giraffe to the count once I figure out how to tabulate my entry in this thread. The tabulation format keeps changing and I'm confused.

My definition for a giraffe would be any unicycle where the pedals are above the center of the wheel on the ground. That definition would include the mini giraffes, the multi wheel giraffes, and the traditional chain drive giraffes. It would nix the oddballs like the chaindrive jackshaft geared 36er (it's a chaindrive, but not a giraffe). It would include the big wheel uni in the picture that Klaas posted.
