My Gear:

I am quite into photography. I have a nikon D200 and a few lenses. I will have to upload some of my photos instead of keeping them to myself.

I personally am into Film. (such great colors as compared to digital). anyway,

Heres a few pics off my first roll. Camera is a Minolta SRT101, Film is cheap kodak 35mm 200, and i had it developed/scanned at Target (not going there again, they charge WAY too much.) I like to play with DOF a lot, so its really in all my pics. None of this has been photoshopped in any way.

D is for digital.

SLR means Single Lense Relfex.

It lets you view through the lense that is taking the picture.

Im shooting with a Canon G10. It takes some really nice pictures but there can still be a little too much noise for me sometimes.
I cant see myself upgrading to the SLR beacause i dont like to pack stuff around but the G10 gives me enough options for the shooting I like to do.

Those are some great photos, Graham. I especially like the 3rd, 4th and 6th.

I don't really agree that the colours are better in film vs. digital. A lot is just in the settings..

Anyways, I really liked those photos.

What lenses do you have?

Now has anyone been playing with geotagging? I bought a phottix GPS unit. Here is how I show the data on my photo albums at www.madeo.co.uk/zenphoto

incidentally I like this photo. Especially since it was taken on my girlfriends scarf on a wall to try and act as a tripod. 3 second exposure at F/10. I had no cable release so i just used the timer !

Well, they still look good in sRGB, in the form of JPEGs. In other words, we'll probably never see them in their native film/print form. But film is still a great way to learn photography as it makes you pay more attention to what you're doing with each shot, instead of just banging away and seeing what came out right. Of yours, I especially like the one of the KH saddle.

Good luck with that. Someone took pity on you and answered you anyway? Oh well.

Now here's the interesting part. The "reflex" part of SLR refers to the mirror and prism (or other) system used to get the picture from the lens to the viewfinder. Other small cameras were called rangefinders, in that you couldn't see through the lens and had to focus them manually (by looking at the numbers). But today's compact digital cameras are NOT rangefinders. Hardly any of them even have viewfinders anymore! Mine does, but it's not really a rangefinder either because it has a live image on the LCD on the back, which is coming through the lens. Why does this matter? Because the view through the viewfinder is always a little off to the side, and is less accurate the closer you get to your suject. This is called parallax.

But today's SLRs are all starting to offer live views on the LCD as well. At some point the Reflex part may become irrelevant...

And after all that regurgitation, I'll offer the new URL to my online photos:
http://gallery.unicycling.com
You can still find a listing of all the albums in chronological order here:

I really hope this never really happens.. I feel like the live view is one of the worst things to happen to SLR cameras. It makes using it so much more difficult and slow. It also takes away from the steady hand you normally get from holding your SLR correctly. Oh such a sad story.
