Ok so I thought I would bring this thread back now that I have done some extensive riding on the New 36er. Probably about 10 miles a day for the last 6 days. And add onto that maybe a 12 mile ride after school. Those ten miles a day were to and from school (where i locked my uni in a nice and safe bike locker). The ride there is all downhill. For those of you who know Toronto it was from Eglinton down Yonge to Ryerson at Dundas. The ride back is of course all uphill. Well let me tell you I was asweatin' by the time I made it home on the first few days. I think I have a training curve going here, though. The last few days' commute were so enjoyable. Riding up the hill i was actually able to watch passers by and get a little enjoyment from their reaction (pos or neg).
One small quam. My tube won't retain air for longer than about an hour... this was the case out of the box. UDC already has a free tube coming, but has anyone else had this problem? Also is hard to install new tube and remount that gigantic tire? |

I don't know how different the SE rim is from the undersized airfoil but I was able to do everything without the use of tire levers. A larger tire (in theory) should be easier to remove because you get more of the bead in the center channel of the rim before removing it.
I would suggest not bothering with the 36er tube and using the widest 700C tube you can find. I am using a CCM 700x38C tube from Canadian Tire. I have been using it for 6 months now with no problems and you can really feel the weight difference when riding. |
