Me: A bit nerdy, stubern, patient.

I think this being such a hard sport to learn the basics, it attracts people who constantly want to challenge themselves by learning something new or doing it better. IMO that's why trials, freestyle, street, and technical Muni are so much more popular in comparison to bikes, where it's how fast/far you can ride. A uni's slower speed also prob. plays a small factor.

for me it is another way to mess with people. get them to do a double look. or my personal favorite, ride in the middle of the road (with just enough room for cars to get by) even though you have a perfectly flat smooth driveway you could ride on.

not sure though. riding in front of traffic is more of a freeborder thing. especially if you have riden in sf.

This is the closest description for me, thanks cathwood. In every Myers-Briggs (or similar) test I've ever taken--and I've taken bunches--I'm on the far end of the Introvert scale. I like hanging out with people if they're people I like to hang out with. But not with the rest of them. It's an interesting catch-22 I've run with since grade school. I love group rides with my fellow Seattle Area Riders, but I spend the bulk of my summers training alone on long rides out in the country where I rarely see a biker and never see a uni.

Not sure I'd agree with that, at least at the "semi-serious or above" rider level. To me, the peloton is Exhibit A as to the difference. Trying to get unicyclists together and agreed on anything is cat herding. With biking--or at least bike racing--having everyone together is the default. They don't mind the constant view of the butt ahead. Unicyclists rarely stand for that.

Unicyclists are just misunderstood.
When I tell people 'bout muni, I get some strange looks.

We are cool, goosh darn it!
