Cathwood: you are right, absolutley. I will do more stetches. I actually have a good stretching routine that I enjoy from a Tai Chi Class.

Maestro: I will get back to doing my sit ups and push ups. Pushups are hard for me, I can do like 25 then ooof. I can do situps until I get bored. I think I need to do them on an inclined plane or something to get a workout there.

Pat: I like your attitude. If you have kids, do they keep up with you, still?

The shrubs I dug out was a huge job. I tried pulling them out with my Jeep and they kept snappinng the 1" rope. I think I'd have been sore even when I was 20 years old!

My oldest daughter, aged 32, just got married. She is a serious rock climber and an avid skier. My youngest daughter is 27 and earned 11 Varsity letters in high school. She was captain of the boy's golf team her junior and senior year. Like her sister, she's an avid skier. They both live in great locations for skiers - Calgary and Denver. Neither rides a uni but they get a kick out of the fact that their dad does.

But soon I will have some short, shapely all-mountain boards of the new generation, and a plane ticket to Salt Lake to go with them. But I'll bring my old boards along too, just to see if FINALLY I can be the guy with the longest skis in the Snowbird tram. It's only happened once, when I had my 220 DH boards along one day. I could see people lookin' over, wondering what they'd be like to ride, and whether I really had a license to operate them. I did.

I will TRY the new world, but reserve the right to retreat back into the old.

Wow! 207s? That will get attention at Snowbird. You and Glenn Plake are among the few still exceeding the double century mark. In GS I've dropped from 190 to 170. I'm selling a pair of 176 Atomic GS11ms in a Race Stock model. 21m+ radius and they come with Atomic 6:14 race bindings. I paid $804 and only used them for about a dozen races. I'm asking $399 if anyone is interested.

You're going to have a blast on the shaped skis. Let the ski do the work and experience the joy of pure carving.

I don't ski, but I've had some Geezer aching.

Last Dec. I tired to mount a Coker brand tire on a steel radial 360 rim. I could not get the tire to seat properly. So I bounced, or rather pounded the wheel against the floor, hoping the impact would seat the tire. At first I seemed to be making progress, so I kept trying, gave up, and tried again the next day. Eventually found that there was no way I was going to get tire seated.

Later noticed my shoulders and elbows were sore, from the pounding. It wasn't such a bad pain that would stop me from doing things so I continued to carry on normally. Meanwhile I was enjoying learning to hop and go up/down steep hills on my muni, kept that exercise up through the winter into the summer. That elbow/shoulder pain from the pounding never went away, and began to get worst over the summer. Then by September I could not lift a glass of water, turn a door knob, or raise my arms above my head without sharp pains. Finally I went to a doctor.

The doctor sent me to physical therapy. All this time I continued my routine of uni hopping and doin the hills. Finally after a few weeks of therapy, while blaming the pain on the initial trying to seat that tire, it occurred to me that my aggressive uni riding may be contributing to the pain. So I switched to only riding streets on my big wheel Radial 360. Thats when things begin to get better, but very slowly.

I quit the phy therapy because I was healing so slow, I still could not do the simple exercises they recommend without the pain increasing. I don't think they knew how pervasive the damaged was to my joints and muscles. Now with three months since the physical therapy, I can move without pain for the first time. A full year after the initial bruising, I am free of pain. I gave myself a week of being pain free and took my muni straight to some hills to ride on, it was great.

This 52 year geezer isn't healing as fast as he used to, and apparently not catching on to cause and effect very well. I'm glad to be over that pain, and have learned to stop those things that aggravate it, at least until better. Right now I'm looking for some small hills to hop and ride my muni around on. I will take it easier.

I played football yesterday, and I'm really sore. My legs, hips, and upper back all hurt. I must be getting old.

jus a question you are not obliged to answer : what is exactly your problem?
(am interested in feet problems since I discovered this year that I have an heriditary thing that does not enable my feet to go sideways .... apparently I just managed to deal and compensate with that without getting hurt .... until I twisted my ankle !)

I'm really sorry to lower the tone of this thread, but the best cure I've found for lower back pain is some gentle pelvic thrusting. Dunno if it works for girlz, but it has always helped sort my back pains out when I've had a problem.

Paracetamol help too, by reducing inflammation.

The key to not having back pain, as has already been mentioned, is preventing back pain before it occurs. Strengthening your core muscles is 95% of that prevention. We unicyclists are doing that every time we ride, but some supplemental exercises also help, and I don't think they include yorking well-rooted shrubberies out of the ground.

The 1st issue of UNI magazine had a demo and description of something called planks. Since then I've been doing them religiously, and I can't overstate how strong they make you feel. Well I guess saying that I can lift my car out of the ditch would be overstating it, but otherwise....

While I still get some lower back soreness from a long, hilly Muni session (pulling up hard on the handle), it's not too severe and doesn't last too long.
