ISIS Hubs
Has anyone thought of making hubs that are ISIS compatible?. Some members of the mountain bike industry have adopted this new type of splined bottom bracket and cranks (Race Face being one).
I'm wondering if this kind of hub could be manufactured. The blueprints/drawings should be readily available. Any CNC types out there?

the only one i know of is the DM uni,it comes w/a splinded hub but i'm not sure if it is ISIS

Profile has put quite a bit of work into producing their hub, which works great despite the squeakiness. It's hard to convince a namebrand manufacturer to commit time to this small market and it's awesome that Profile has been making these cranksets. 2) Expense. I think that one of the most important thing for the growth of our sport is to make the unis less expensive, because so many people are not able or willing to spend $1500 on a unicycle. ISIS aren't always expensive but often are quite expensive. Stay tuned for a less expensive pinch-splined crankset, coming soon... 3) Design. ISIS cranks are tapered splines. Non-tapered splines are actually a better design for a unicycle, in my opinion, because they allow everything to nest together on the axle (ie you slide the bearings and cranks on and it all just fits without any space due to the taper. This could be worked around with the ISIS so it's not a really huge factor. 4) Crank lengths. Right now I don't know of any available super-short ISIS cranks to fit the Monty Trials setup. In contrast, short BMX cranks are more easily obtained. I never even thought about the crank length issue. It seems that there is no middle ground with hubs and cranks. You can go low end or high end. I was thinking that an ISIS hub could be used with more crank's etc. offering a little more middle ground. It's great that a company such as Raceface is even considering something... |

try machining one!
The isis design is a freely used design, and the blueprints can be downloaded at www.isisdrive.com
I have thought about the possibility of getting a hub machined up with an isis spline on it! I am also investigating the possibility of converting a set of mony cranks to isis spline, but i dont think its possible! Food for thought! James |

I've thought about it. Blueprints would be the first step. The ISIS plans are easy enough to get but I don't know where to get plans for a hub. Any ideas?

If the freeride spindles are hollow then an ISIS hub for muni could also be hollow which would save some weight. Lighter and stronger is a good combination. freeride isis!
the isis hubs for freeriding are hollow, but have a smaller bolt to secure cranks, allowing for more diameter of metal in the axel and a stronger set up. but is still doesnt weigh much. Companies like race race, specialized, truitive etc all use the isis spline for their downhill and trials cranks. Anyone seen ryanleech riding trials bikes, he uses an isis spline, so im sure if it can take him, it can take us!
