I'd suggest that you pick out a new point in a different direction to get rid of the ingrained mental block.

is your driveway sloped? maybe you're scaring yourself at the point where you start to pick up too much speed?

I agree...try somewhere else

If you are riding down a sloped driveway, you might want to try some where flat, or slightly uphill. I think one of the best things to do is to mix up what you try. For me, it seems to stimulate learning.

Good luck,
Daniel

I think he was actually practicing in the street; launching off a random van. The street is fairly level and smooth. It looks to me (in my expert opinion) that he just needs to practice more to get more accustomed to that lean that we all take for granted. He tends to lean to far forward and go faster than his legs are capable of going, so he falls.

Just keep at it, Eric.

do try somewhere else, u might be hitting a slight ridge

while u're at it, investigate where in the pedal-stroke r u coming off
is it the 1st, 2nd, 3rd revolution?
is it when your dominant foot is right at the bottom?
if it is (and that's my guess) u need to put more weight on the seat and less on your legs
too much weight on your legs and your foot will almost stall in the BDC(bottom dead center) position
this temporary stall is all u need to shatter your fragile balance envelope and lead to the UPD
focus on revolving the pedals as smoothly as possible
keep a steady cadence and dont let the thrill of riding (or 'almost riding') get the better of u
keep it slow, steady and controlled
and put more weight on the seat

let us know how u progress
