WOW!! Eyal is going for it again! I remember well all the prep from the Santa Barbara weekend. This was an awesomely organized weekend!

I don't ride much anymore having gone the other way over to the dark side of two wheels and MTB. Still, I saw this thread and really really wanted to come back to ride Muni in New Mexico. How cool would that be? Hot air balloons and Muni.

But, it's too far away to drive which would take just too much time. Los Angeles teachers have had to take some serious pay cuts as well. So, there is the financial constraint as well.

I hope Eyal hosts this again in a year or two, and maybe I can get my keester out there when things improve for me.

Hey, I'm planning to stop in Moab on the way to Albequerque, and do some riding on Tuesday and Wednesday. Currently trying to get reservations at Canyonlands Campground/RV park, on the edge of town so my wife can shop etc while we're out riding. Trail ideas in this other thread.
Anyone want to join at Moab for some pre-munifest riding?

Arriving in Moab Monday, October 1st, late!
Staying at Canyonlands Campground
Riding Moab Tues (2), Weds (3), Thurs AM (4)

Driving to Albuquerque Thurs PM
Staying at Turquise Trail Campground
Riding Albuquerque Fri (5), Sat (6), Sun AM (7)

Anyone interested in meeting at Moab??

Hi all. I have made some slight updates to the website info to help you decide when to arrive and depart. See our tentative ride times. Also note the possibility of a Monday morning secret bonus ride, if you're interested. It's very short, but quite advanced, so not for everyone. This could be shifted to another day if people prefer.

I'm heading back Sunday, though I'd like to go for a morning ride before heading out. Scott Bondo suggested that he was going to watch the balloons on Sunday morning, I might do the same since it's a dawn thing, which allows time for a ride after the balloons are off.

How's Friday shaping up?

I'll head over to the site and see what you guys are planning. I'd be game for an XC ride Friday, then harder stuff Sat, back to cruiser Sunday. I'm hoping to still have some legs left after riding in Moab

What's the beta on flatting from goat heads and cactus spines? Is tubeless better than tubes or is it a non issue?

You won't have to worry about them too much but they are around, especially in town. Bring patches, a pump and an extra tube. You can also run Stan's or another sealant in you tube. We all ride tubed out here and go many rides between flats.

I would not recommend the 36er on any of the trails, especially not Friday. If you really wanted to ride the 36er, Sunday will be your best bet. The trail on Friday gets steep (in sections) and is really loose throughout. Saturday is nice flowy trails punctuated by technical limestone obstacles. Sunday will be similar but much smother and less steep overall.

So my riding buddy (son) has done himself in again. Jammed his big toe so bad it broke the front digit, and part of his bone is missing.

Doctors are very interested in his case; the primary theory is that he hit it so hard he compressed the bone into itself.

I'm probably still in for the trip, and will just send him off with the rest of the family to museums and such. But looks like we're down one rider.

I'm probably in for the Monday ride. I might have to just hike-a-uni and watch ("quite advanced" is vaguely ominous and intriguing), but I'll still be in town so am inclined to at least tag along.
