White-Night Ride in Alaska

Fun ride tonight at the end of a family trip to Alaska with BenNC. We took full advantage of the "white nights" they have up here in June, finishing our ride with the sunset at midnight.

Thanks to Ben for making it out for the late night ride, loaning the uni, navigating safely around the two moose on the trail, and fishing me out of a fast mountain stream that had a slippery wooden bridge I couldn't resist trying!

Ro

Pict 1 shows the sunset in the corner, Mt Denali was visible to the right but didn't come out in this photo. Pict 2 shows some mountaintops near Anchorage.

Summer has arrived with a bang and I have been too busy with preparing camp and training staff too keep up on what has been going on in the forums.

Monday was our first day with campers, and we have our hands full with this lot. Many are from shelters, foster homes, and 20 of them are homeless. All in all they are a great bunch of kids.

I took advantage of the camp being empty over the weekend and spent some time riding and snapping pictures. Here's a few pix of my summer home.

My daughter has been practicing riding the catwalk (the horizontal pole behind the climbing wall) with her unicycle. We of course have her harnessed and on belay.

Neat! How high is it? 30, 40 feet?
And do you have the unicycle suspended from anything or does it just fall to the ground? Does it take any damage or is it relatively unscathed?

The catwalk is 30 ft. She wears a full body harness and we tether the unicycle to her harness.

My latest ride was in my kitchen last night after I finished assembling my KH Trials. It started life as a stock Nimbus Blizzard, and I have slowly bought enough KH parts to call it my first offical KH Unicycle. The only parts that aren't KH now are the wheel build and pedals. I have a Maxxis Creepy Crawler in the garage, but I didn't have time to install that last night.

Someone saw me riding, and asked if I could "Juggle". Since I didn't have any bowling pins or tennis balls handy, I used the next best thing!

Salt Lake City's Millcreek Canyon Pipeline Trail

I "rode the pipeline" again today -- this time all the way out to the overlook (end of the line) from Burch Hollow & back (9.6 miles). 5:45 a.m. start and the weather was awesome (50 degrees F, light breeze, 5% humidity). Round-trip time was about 80 minutes. The first photo is of me at the end of the line from this morning, the other three are from when Nurse Ben & I rode the pipeline last September, to give you a better idea of the scenery and varied nature of the trail -- from dry scrub to forest.

It ain't quite on the level of the scenery that Aspen Mike's got, but it's not too shabby and it's a 10 min. drive from my home.

Trees in Utah? I guess it's been a while since I've been there. When did you get those?

My latest rides

Pic 1: There are a few dozen penny farthings at this place.
Pic 2: My teddy bear ears are actually pivoting headphones. Good for hearing herons creep up on you ( just to the right in the picture)
