Does anyone else tare up their shin guards because of the unicycle frame? I ride a Nimbus trials and the square topped forks have torn in to my shin guards. Or am I just developing a bad habit?

Helmet for everything except freestyle. Would wear shin pads but don't have them

Not read all of this yet (but I will - useful stuff).
I learnt to ride wearing no protection at all (unless padded bike shorts count - I found it made a big difference to my confidence having some testicle protection!) I found I was landing on my feet all the time so didn't need anything. Then after the first time I didn't land on my feet - when I could just about ride, but trying to do a bit more - I started wearing DH MTB gloves, no wrist protection though. Got some KH gloves when I bought my muni - had been doing a bit of off-road with my 20" learner and jarred my (bad) wrist one time. I now wear KH gloves and a helmet for muni - though it's far more softcore than what most of you lot do, without many big sharp rocks around. Nothing else yet, though I have some shin pads ordered, as I got tired of shredding my shins and have lost a bit of confidence in trying new things after a particularly bad day. I have elbow and knee pads from inline if I feel I need them. For "commuting" on my 26" muni, doing the school run I only wear gloves - and will probably drop them when it's a bit warmer. Not trying anything new and confident of landing on my feet if I do UPD. Strange as I wear a helmet when doing it on a b*ke, and I don't really feel the need on the uni.
