If you could make a 29" Unicycle coast like that, I'd say it's entirely possible.

right you've got me confused here, why would a 29" BC wheel go any faster than a 20" BC wheel?

He isn't talking about BC wheels... He is talking about a 29" with a freecoasting hub.

THIS ONE.

I didn't know how to put it into words, but you did so thank you. ;P

And a 29" would cover more ground quicker from what I'm thinking.

whatever any terrain, generally when I read statements like "If you could make a 29" unicycle coast like that" referring to a BC wheel video, I dont immediately go to "If you could make a 29" unicycle with a freecoasting hub"

Anyway, Plainodd!
With a freecoasting hub the only difference between 20" and 29" would be the initial speed gain from pedalling.
Pretty irrelevant anyway, as this video shows, those things are hard to ride!

I know that Sam Goodburn has a Muni with a freecoasting hub, but he says it doesnt work very well, and definitely cant be taken offroad. (and this definitely isn't because he's a bad rider! I was riding with him last week, amazing freestyler.)

A quick analogy for you as to why you wouldnt really need a bigger wheel.
A 20" wheel on a unicycle with a freecoasting hub with the same initial force (before coasting) will go just as fast as a bike the same weight with the same initial force and rider.
At this stage, the only reason bikes can go bigger is because it's easier to balance whilst going down ramps coasting on two wheels than it is on one.

Well, maybe if there was a serious project on creating the "perfect" freecoasting hub, and it could be used in a variety of situations, I'll still say there's a chance.

And I guess a 20" would be fine, then.

Im really not trying to be a douche here, but you arent getting it.
Imagine you have a unicycle with the perfect freecoasting hub, you pedal towards the edge of a halfpipe, you hop over the coping and your wheel hits the ramp, what's going to happen?
Sam Goodburns Muni hub works fine from what I gather, the concept itself isn't a good one.

I don't think the quality of the coasting hub is the issue. I don't want to be the issue either so if you can make it and you can do it then go get 'em tiger! After that we'll see if you can get a group of competitors together. Be sure to keep us posted because this is an event we won't want to miss.

I didn't know that. It would surprise me then if they would reject a unicycle contingency. If there were enough participants to make a game I think people would enjoy it.

Anyhow, back on topic. I agree that to gain any serious legitimacy our skill level needs to drastically rise. It will in time, but our sport, especially big street, is a very young sport, what perhaps less than 10 years? Think about where street bmx and street skating were in the very early years? The guys weren't going nearly as big as they are now. It's all about progression, having fellow riders push each other to go bigger and bigger to push the sport along. So it may not be in X Games, but there is definitely a need to get unicyclists together on a regular basis in competition to help promote the sport and push it's frontiers. The X Games has done a lot to push the progression of all it's constituent sports. I remember watching Freestyle MOTOX Best Trick years ago when a "Kiss Of Death" was enough to win, today even a single back flip is not enough, you've got to do TWO. Progression.

So maybe we don't need the X Games to push our sport along, but we do need something. NAUCC, UNICON and the various MUniFests out there are a good start but more is needed if we do indeed want more exposure. A big coup might be for some of our best riders to actually get a mainstream sponsorship by some of the biggies like Monster or RockStar etc...

Man I wish unicyling was where it is today about 20 years ago when I was hitting 8-10 sets and rails skateboarding! I'd have been all over big street unicycling!
I did say with all due respect. You see, moto is as misunderstood as Uni. Therefore in the MX community we take every opportunity to educate. Im sure you do the same with Uni stuff.

Would be AMAZING to ride with her. I have glanced over her book in the book store. Do you ride MX?

My wife and I used to race harescrambles and Enduros, and I like to read non fiction so any true adventure book peaks my interest.
