An Unexpected Yet Awesome Surprise

Today I was blowing the leaves out of my well, when I noticed that amongst the leaves, a black and yellow salamander. I didn't even know salamanders lived in Colorado. I always figured salamanders were like rainforest type animals. Anways, I picked it up, gave it to my neighbor (a vet) and took a pictures. It's quite sick so let's hope it lives.Name: IMG_1138.jpg

Why do you think it was sick?

Some salamanders spend time on land. They'll stay where it's moist, like under leaves or in animal burrows where there are insects and worms to eat. You've got streams and lakes and ponds in Colorado. Salamanders could be happy there as long as they can figure out how to survive winter.

Probably some flavor of tiger salamander.
