Though I see the term as the creation of an "us" and a "them"- basically being a divisive term. I see Obama as President a victory for Americans in general, not just the African American community. Being brown myself, being called coloured by a white person sparks some post-colonial not-so-positive feelings , which I'll agree is my problem and not anyone else's.Though to get back on topic, I think if Obama was white and he still had said all the things he has, he would not have won the Nobel. The fact that he is of African origin does provide hope for many and that may have swung it in his favour. But that means that the fact that his skin colour got him the prize is racism in itself. He may deserve it sometime in the future but that is conjecture. |
