Nice filming and everything, but what an absolute twat.
Yeah, you better just ride your uni inside your house from now on. Being anywhere near the public, no matter how well controlled you think you are, just makes you a twat.

Well, simple solution, don't watch it!
We didn't ask for your negitive input. Nor does anyone else who posts a vid they spent time producing wether it be good or bad. You don't like it, keep it to yourself! Did you have a bad day or is this really you???
Do you realize that the clip was from an extreme unicycling DVD specifacally showing the agility and maneuverability of a 36'" wheel in an active unpredictable setting? We figured riding in and out of cones in a parking lot just wouldn't do it! Just so you don't loose much more sleep, NO one was hurt or even realized what happend. This is NYC, if things like that offend or ashame you, get back in your bubble!
I guess the vid hit 816,000 by offending so many people???
Oh, and what about the producers from the Tracy Ullman show begging me to license the exact portion of the clip that made you feel so ashamed to be a cyclist, to use on the intro to all the Tracy Ullman "State Of The Union" shows on ShowTime (that sceen appears in every one).
Also, received gig's from Microsoft, Reebok and others from the vid.
Listen to Jerrick, stay within the bubble in your living room!
Also, try to remember, there are younger riders on these forums. Watch your mouth.

Blimey, my mini rant seems to have hit a few nerves.

No, it doesn't. But riding along the footpath at speed swerving round people from behind while talking on the phone does (IMO), and randomly dodging in and out of traffic is almost as bad.

It's a very good, well-made film. That particular clip shows something that just winds me up. The reason is that cyclists already get enough bad feelings from the rest of the road users - a lot of people would like to see bikes taken off the roads because they claim we don't behave properly. If they see one cyclist riding like a maniac they don't think "oh, he's probably just filming an extreme video, that's OK", they think "that proves I'm right and cyclists should be taken off the road". If you are the rider in the clip, I apologise if you feel it was a personal attack, and perhaps my remark was a bit blunt, but I stand by my reasons.

No, I really think that sort of riding is a bad idea.

Yes I know why it was done.

No, but it could easily have gone the other way. Other people are not predictable, however well rehearsed or however good a rider was. Three years ago somebody walked out in front of me while I was riding my bike to work (on the road). She was killed. I was riding normally and "in control". That's a good part of the reason I feel so strongly about this sort of thing.

OK, perhaps that's normal there.

Because it a good film - I never said it wasn't. Good for you.

What?! If you're refering to the last word, it's not considered particularly rude in these parts - I could have equally said "muppet" or "idiot", or "arse"/"ass". It was intended as a generic term implying foolishness, not as real swearing. Sorry if you saw it differently.

Rob, look up that word on Wikipedia, especially the part about "British English" and then tell us it's not meant to be rude. Oh, and most of us saw it differently, but it was a nice attempt at an apology anyway. 

Thanks for sharing I hadn't seen that video, very cool.

Unicycling in the Streets of Manhattan, was one of the first videos I watched when I was Googling unicycling in April. It was one more positive reason why I ended up getting back into riding a unicycle again. I thought possibly I could ride that good once again and enjoy the seemingly now popular sport as I did when I was younger.

I used to live in NYC, it really isn't any different then what goes on pretty much on a daily basis there, especially where Adam rode. Trust me we walk, at a much faster pace, (New Yorkers that is) the same way, in and out of tourists who walk very very slow, if it was as normal those people are walking about 1/2 step per 30 seconds, a person who is thinking has time to anticipate what they are doing, they walk very slow in that area. I don't think I ever even bumped into one of them as I picked up my pace in comparison to the normal pace in the area.

Sorry about your accident, I'm sure that is a hard thing to deal with.

Hmm bit of an over reaction there Adam. People generally are able to express their opinions, positive or negative about what is posted in forums.

It's a cool enough piece of video, but with so many factors in play - as you say yourself an unpredictable environment - it's far more about good fortune/luck and less about rider skill that nothing went wrong for anyone. If some people view that situation as not ok that seems fair enough to me, they often have good reasons for it.

Great to hear though the video created opportunities for you.

Having had a friend die cycling in a random road accident and survived a freak head-on collision myself as a teenager I'd be less concerned about a little ego bruising due to Rob being critical of your video and more concerned about encouraging younger unicyclists to ride responsibly when in traffic.

Anyways, just my 2c. I wouldn't have bothered posting but for the over reaction to Rob's comment. It's a well made video which I enjoyed when I first saw it (love NYC!) and congrats on the number of views. Might get a few more views, as a bit of drama never hurt Youtube traffic anyway

BTW tw*t is commonly used as slang in parts of the world to mean bozo, goof, goofball etc. Can't see it offending that many young people tbh.

FYI in the US definitions of... tw*t ... it is considered Vulgar Slang for ... well to keep it clean a woman or girl's private part.

Didnt look to 'at speed' to me. No worse then any of us just riding any of our unis outside, or walking, biking, jogging.

I dont think talking on the phone or the direction of travel really matters. Specially being on the phone. Unless talking really puts so much strain on your brain that you cant function...

And in this case, passing from behind is a great thing. I mean, even when walking towards someone, they see you, you see them, you step to one side to out of the way, they step to that same side, you step over again, and so do they until after your little dance, you finally get past them. In walking its fine cause youre going so slow, but when your going 10mph, you probably dont get so lucky.

Coming from behind you dont need to really worry, and its not like youre in their way.

Randomly? Im sure he knew he was going to turn left and right. Cars dont seem to mind. No one was slamming their brakes, getting in wrecks, having to avoid the rider.

Plus, look at the video. Its a guy on a coker passing cars. How fast do you think the cars are going? His amount of danger and recklessness is at the same amount as someone crossing the street.

Its all so trivial and seems dumb to me to make something negative out of the clip.

If you ride like a tw*t, film yourself riding like a tw*t, post the film of yourself riding like a tw*t on the internet, get called a tw*t by someone over the internet, reply on the internet that you object to being called a tw*t, then you probably are going to have to accept that you might just be a bit of a tw*t.

Yes, that is the literal meaning, but in this context it really isn't considered that rude - like lunicycle said, it's pretty much equivalent to "bozo", "fool" or "ass" - not a positive remark, but not as rude as people have taken it to be. I accept that it may have been unwise to use it on an international forum. If I had used the c-word (literally meaning the same thing) then I would have expected this sort of comeback (and I would never have used that word on a public forum).

Anyway, vocabulary usage aside, it's OK for people to disagree about stuff on a forum isn't it? Most of what I've seen of Inner Balance is excellent - in fact if I bought any one unicycling film this would probably be the one. But some of the riding in that particular clip winds me up, so I posted a (slightly ranty) comment. Other people disagree with my view - that's fine. It would be very boring if everybody had the same opinions about everything. A good argument never did anybody any harm.
