The next question is is riding even allowed on Mauna Kea?
Yes it's legal but dangerous(Narrow/curvy roads with fast cars). But as John sez, it doesn't excite me.

The best I think for Hawaii is to do one epic ride(Muni) on each island. Kauai, Big I, Maui, Oahu, Molokai, and Lanai.

OR

The Century Ride* is in September. Police help keep the roads safe. It would be great if some big wheels would show up for that one. I did the 20 miles last fall and I plan to do 25 next fall. Let's get a team for that. Then check out all the cool trails on Oahu or go surfing.

Do you have more information on the century ride? Possibly a website?

But after this year I'm going to have more freedom and I'm chomping at the bit to throw my extensive ultra-marathoning background into some huge muni epic and Kokopelli is one idea I had. For me and ultra-marathons the 100 mile trail running distance is the typical showcase distance and so I'd like to accomplish something like that on a unicycle but on a route that is mostly single-track trail. Ride what I can, hike what I can't, repeat until I'm finished. Although eventually I'd like to do it at one go i.e. through the night, I'd like to gain some more experience by breaking up the distance into more managable daylight chunks... This is the sort of direction I'd like to go in my mountain unicycling... the 100+ mile trail epics. I've done this kind of stuff on foot now I want to bring a unicycle along !
I'd be in too if it was in a year or two. I would not be able to afford it this year. That looks like an awesome trek.

Alrighty. This is getting exciting. But yes let's put it on the back burner. I don't mind (or have any control) if someone else does this before I get a chance to because I want to do it no matter what as this will be a major milestone and spring board into a much larger epic I've got planned. I'm with you saskatchewanian, I'm not able to afford to do this this year or the next but 2011 is a strong possiblity as I'll be through with school so I shouldn't have the time conflict (school is expensive!). If someone else does this before then just post your report and trail beta. If not (and even if) I'll post an announcement on this forum when I'm in the mode to seriously start planning it. Anybody else interested? Just PM me and we can keep in touch...

I'm interested as well. 2011 gives me plenty of time to get in shape for a major multi-day event like this. After reading AspenMike's writeup, I put the trail on my life list.

And... since this is the Evo of Balance thread, figured I should link to KH's site just to keep things relevant. Evolution of Balance 2009. I can't wait to here about the proposals.

Drats! I'm out for this this & next year; no way I'm going to be able to fit a muni adventure in with finishing up my school and other ultra-marathon running plans. I've got some wicked ideas i.e. the above ^^^^ but something real special planned for 2011-2012 at the soonest. It will be awesome and worth the wait. I'd be suprised if it doesn't win the EOB award when I apply for it then. It may not but I'm going to do it anyhow... stay tuned...
