10 reasons why gay marriage is wrong

With a recent thread about the subject, I thought I would post this:

10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage would be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

(one of the saddest parts about our society is that, these arguments, before the humourous common sense, are the real reasons why people can't accept gay marriages.)

Some of those actually made me chuckle a little.

As for me, i am not against gay marriages, gay people, or gay anything, though I dont find it right really, theres nothing I can do to change that, I have came long ago to accept gays, back in elementary school actually.

It is their choice to be gay, its mine not to, they will live their lives respectfully just as I will mine.

I agree

I don't understand why that would be funny. I honestly agree with most of those arguments. The only one I don't really agree with is number 10 (I don't think people would want to marry animals anyway...)

God created you and your descending viewpoint to only strengthen the right point of view...the Christian view. You either get it or you don't. Why don't you at least try to have an open mind and try to listen to those of us who have been right about everything for the past 2000 years?

You mean just like you were right about the crusades? Or killing the jews? Or burning all the witches? Yeah, you were right about about that.

It's so sad!
At least he or she is "open minded" enough to write 2 following sentences wich contradict one another
That's why I thought that was a 3rd degree humoristic post, but if that's serious I feel sad for him/her (it ain't even worth being angry about that )

You can safely assume that you’ve created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do.

Where'd you go, VTUni? This thread didn't actually get funny until you posted the above. But then you ran off! Don't you want to defend your point of view? As an American I don't have to agree with you to defend your right to espouse different views.

Let's not all be distracted by the Republicans' attempt to distract us with this silly constitutional amendment thing.

I still kind of agree that marriage should be between a man and a woman. If it's between man/man or woman/woman we should have a different name for it, while still having the same legal benefits. Then people can unofficially call themselves married, or whatever they want. But why not come up with a newer, better word than marriage? This would probably be very annoying to the religious "right," but it would kill their man/woman argument...

you're really contradicting yourself. how can you say that the christian view is the "right point of few" and still "try to have an open mind"? i have nothing against christianity but frankly i think it is quite stuck up for you to say that your view is the only right view in this world.

Isn't it a lifestyle choice, like riding a unicycle, rather then a genetic "gay gene" thing?

How about a murderer? Do they choose to murder, can control and are responsible for their actions or did they not choose to be a murderer and genetics framed them for it? If we start blaming genetics for our lifestyle choices where would it end? How do you draw the line?

----

Back to the joke thread.
