Unfortunately no, I've got a family reunion that was planned by my wife long before we knew that I'd try to take up unicycling again, so I'd be in all sorts of trouble if I tried to skip out.

I'll definitely have it on the calendar for next year though.

Are you coming to the Ashville Munifest?

I had seen the greenway Speight-Branch, but never knew where it came out. I wouldn't mind getting together any time you'd like. I'll probably have to lay off long rides for another day or two - I went out to Shelley Lake Saturday and ended up going 8 miles, which is a lot for me for where I'm currently at with my comeback. I've rediscovered a muscle above my left knee that my body forgot it had.

Also, I think the overall plan is to buy a 26" muni and eventually not be tethered to paved greenways. Unfortunately unicycle.com is out of stock and I've got no word on when they'll get more. They do have a 29", but I'm not sure I'm ready for what's sure to be a drastic leap over my 24".

Thanks for the suggestions. Over the past month I've been on the Hinshaw trail more than anywhere else, since I can ride to it from my house. I do a brief circuit to MacDonald Woods, take the greenway toward Maynard, ride the sidewalk down to the traffic circle, then pick up the other greenway that takes you back toward the bridge that goes over 64/1. It's about 5K in all.

Continuing my last message since I hit the 1000 character limit...

I also enjoy riding around the lake in McGregor Downs subdivision. It is a somewhat hilly ride and it is on the road but traffic is no problem in that area.

Hinshaw greenway is another nice trail that starts near Barnes and Noble on Maynard (it actually starts on Greenwood Circle about 1/10th of a mile away from Maynard) and it goes south across a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over rt. 64 and ends at "Kids together Park" by the Wellington Park Shopping Center. Sometimes I will ride the side walks to connect this trail to the Speight-Branch Greenway which starts at Tryon (between Piney Plains and Holly Springs) and goes south to Cary Parkway.

Perhaps we can get together sometime for a skills session to work on idling and backward riding and other skills. I usually get together with a coworker for Coker rides, skill sessions and muni rides.

The Lake Crabtree trail (black creek greenway) has some interesting hills. You can start at Old Reedy Creek Road and go to Dynasty, then turn right and go up the hill, down the hill and then turn left for the continuation of the trail. It ends at Maynard but if you cross the road you will see Godbold park and it has another trail that starts at the entrace of the park and goes about 1 mile to an elementary school on rt. 54.

On the other hand you can start from that same point and to into Umstead Park and ride the bike and bridle trail. Just ride along Old Reedy Creek Road into the park and when it passes the park boundary it becomes the bike and bridle trail. Even though it is not paved it is very smooth and won't give you any problems.
