Help with Hopping

I am wondering if anyone has tips on hopping. I can idle a little and freemount but am having trouble hopping. i own a basic 20 unicycle with a 1" width wheel. will a wider wheel help?

A wider tire might help a little bit, but you should be able to hop on a skinny tire just fine. Lower the pressure in your tire a little bit and practice hopping while holding onto a wall. The trick to hopping is to use your ankles not your knees. You're really just pivoting your ankles up and down when you hop.
