Rip off

Last night my friend told me she'd heard there was a little red and white uni in
the window of a second hand store downtown. So we went down and looked at it,
but the store was closed. It was a "Stellbar," with a non-pneumatic tire, about
ten spokes total, and a little banana seat. It was cute, but it looked like a
piece of junk. The cranks were just a piece of metal that had been bent and
formed both cranks, if you can see what I mean. It didn't have real cranks.
Anyway, guess what the price tag was on this puppy! SEVENTY-FIVE BUCKS! What a
rip-off! These people obviously had no idea what they were doing. This morning
my sister and I went down there are tried to ride it, just for curiosity's sake.
We couldn't. That's how bad it was. The pedals refused to turn, and even when
you tried to turn the pedals in mid-air there was a lot of resistance. Be
warned! :)

A good warning, for both the Stelber and Troxel brands. The right amount to pay
for a unicycle as described above is $0 (or less). In other words, if they give
it to you, okay. They do more damage to our sport than all the misconceptions
about unicycling, because what they do prove to people is how hard it is to
ride; about 3x harder on one of those.

I know. I sort of learned on one.

I DID learn on one. See my story at
http://www.unicycling.org/unicycling/tales/funi.html . It's amazing that
anyone could ride one at all. I got to the point where I could ride a few
feet, then once I got on a "real" unicycle, I took off. Even worse than the
cranks was the seat!
