of seatposts and hubs

Now obviously if a guy wants to custom make a unicycle, only a COMPLETE fanatic
would try to make his own hub. So where would somewhat less of a fanatic buy a
simple, already made unicycle hub? (Preferably one that will last.) How about a
seat? Chris

The Unicycle Factory can supply you with aluminium cranks (152 Dotek ones for
definate), Mayiata Seats and hubs. The other place in the US that definately
sells Miyiata Seats and also has 5" aluminium cranks is Osells in
Minneapolis. If you are in the UK there is a new source of 152 Dotek cranks,
a uni-firendly biek shop in Glourcester tel: 01453 753330 and ask for Shane.
As for light weight hubs, the answer is not far off I have a design and only
on Friday found someone very willing to maufacture them: but they will need
new bearing housings.

You might need a whole new uni I am afraid. Ok here goes....Design is, 25mm od
CrMo tube with flanges welded on: This is the core and it will be bomb proof it
is well tested by the BMX guys. The bearings will be spaced from the flanges and
press fitted onto the shaft as normal, and now the nasty bit for you, the
bearings 6005-2RS id25 od47 12thk. Basically you will need new bearing housings.
These bearings are the smallest available and are catagoried as extra light load
- but it is still a higher load than the 6207 used in the best uni's. The Cranks
will need to be specially made and will be a split broached tube with a pinch
boilt system. Material again CrMo which should make it strong and light. The
frame builder is working on a design that would allow the clamp to be on the
pedal side of the hub - definately a need to protect feet and allow silly things
like crank idling. OK I admit it this is the best but requires a major re-design
to the unicycle. Plan B is to use 20mm od Tubing and 6004 bearings. With only a
slight mod my uni's can be used as the OD of the bearing is 42mm. It would be
heavier though and probably not as durable, but conciderably better than a
normal uni. Completion of project.... I asked the same, I will ask again
tomorrow but on first try he thought 2 months to sort the design out. Thats
all.......

my Mk2 uni

Hi John, I brougt Takafumi Ogasawara's 2-seatpost suspension unicycle to UNICON
8. Because of the 2 seatposts its somewhat heavy and maybe does not suit Roger's
wishes. Furthermore because of the 2 seatposts the mass is not concentrated in
the center and it got a big momentum. If not me I assume somebody else will
bring it to UNICON 9, maybe even Takafumi will go there.

Sounds fun I look forward to seeing it....... I forgot to mention that I have
just got a USE Suspension post for my Muni. Need I say it is light. It has a
25.0 dia shaft and about 25mm movment and is 180mm long. USE have agreed to
produce a specialy short version for uniyclists and is available through Bike
Scene (01287 610 735) for
69.ukp.
