As the Chairperson for the International Unicycle Federation (IUF) Rulebook
Committee I am here to announce the completition of the latest IUF Rulebook.
This rulebook will be used at the 9th World Unicycle Convention (Unicon IX) at
Bottrop, Germany, July 1998. Currently the new version of the rulebook is only
in English but hopefully there will be other languages available soon.
The IUF Rulebook is a comprehensive set of rules that have been refined for
many years. The IUF Rulebook has rule standards that many national unicycle
organizations use as a model. It is currently the most compelete set of
unicycle rules available. The IUF rulebook contains rules on: racing, artistic
freestyle (individual, pairs and group), standard skill, hockey, basketball and
the skill levels.
The rulebook is available from the recently redesigned IUF web site. Also at the
IUF web site is information on Unicon IX and other IUF information. The most
current IUF Rulebook has the date of 'November 1997'. The web address is:
http://www.unicycling.org/iuf/
If you can't access the web site, let me know and I can email you a copy of the
rulebook. Or, I can snail mail copies of the rulebook but the cost will be $3
for USA, $4 for Canada and $5 for overseas.
Here are some of the major changes from the previous IUF Rulebook:
* Standard Skill has been changed, updated, and improved
* Age groups can be combined by the Unicon hosts if they think it is necessary
* Expert Artistic routines (Individual Freestyle and Pairs Freestyle) now have a
maximum of four minutes (up from three minutes)
I would like to thank all the members of the IUF Rulebook committee for their
input and help on voting. A special thanks to John Foss (IUF Director) who has
been one of the biggest contributers to the rulebook and as IUF Director, is
responsible for the rulebook.
After this annoucement, I am no longer the IUF Rulebook Chairman. The title will
go back to John Foss <unifoss@calweb.com>. If you have questions or comments
about the rulebook please contact the IUF officers at:
<iuf-discuss@winternet.com>.
