If you don't mind, follow the link I'm going to post, and when you get there, vote for my picture. I'm planning on using the money (if I happen to win) to pay for school, and travel back to Peru to see my family. I appreciate any votes you're willing to send.
Here's the link to my photo. (http://www.brickfish.com/Pages/PhotosAlbums/PhotoView.aspx?qsi=16639335) When you get there, read the description, and vote for it!

I found out something that is both good news, and bad news: Brickfish CHOOSES the winner from the top 150 photos. So I Do have a chance at the grand prize, but so do about 70 or so other people I recently surpassed.

The sad truth:
You are artificially inflating your popularity, so while your image might not be top notch, it will be ranked that way. At the same time someone who never did this had all real votes! This means when brickfish chooses, yours will be ranked last if none of the other 149 did that. Most likely, most of them did, so you may or may not have an advantage over them.
I will look at your picture now, and stop speculating.
don't take offence at this, kay :).

Haha, I'm pretty sure everyone has been doing pretty close to the same thing I was, but you may be right. I want to win, but we'll see what happens :-)

Yeah, I dont know of anyone who enters a contest then doesnt tell their friends about it to get the votes.
Ive been going through the pictures, and your pic deserves the votes. Some of them that are up there, to me, are just completely bland. Others are visually cool, but dont portray anything to me than eye candy.
Hey,
If the other people weren't spreading their art around to win, they don't deserve to win. I voted for you, and will continue as long as i'm awake.
I don't necessarily like the picture, to be completely honest, it kind of makes me nervous, but I figure, hey, you seem nice enough, and this seems like an easy enough gesture.
Good luck, Good luck.

Thats the same as saying because I didn't cheat on my biology final, I didn't deserve getting the highest grade in the school.

Well, there's only 5 hours left. And Jeremy: the contest has a second prize for the "most viral" photo. I think you are SUPPOSED to get you're friends involved, and post it all over the net. And If I'm wrong, I probably won't win. It's ok with me, it's been fun trying.
And thanks Riot, I appreciate the help even though my picture makes you nervous.

If you had the capacity to read my post, instead of just finding something for me asking about votes, you would have noticed that my emphasis was on the fact it is judge picked by the website, not picked by popularity. The instructables contest was all popularity, so therefore my statement doesn't hold true.
unidunc
2009-08-13, 11:11 PM
You were also artifically inflating your popularity, so, even though your instructable was not top notch it could be ranked that way! this means that when the people chose (potentially) you could have "falsely" won. this is what I am getting at.
Jeremy R
2009-08-14, 02:34 AM
No people choose, only votes in that contest.
+ it is a supported practice, there is a share feature on instructables.
edit: and I never said the practice was bad either.

When I said "people chose" i was referring to the public that you distributed your link to. (I could have phrased it better, yes.)
I.e if you had distributed your less than top notch instructable to millions of people somehow, you would have falsely won due to the increased chance of the people chosing to vote for your one "cz i was told to!"
In this way, what you and Spaz did are one in the same (by the looks of things viral distribution is supported on both sites, probably to advertise the website)
Although the brickfish judging system seems to be the better of the two, im almost sure (could be wrong, if so, do tell me.) the amount of votes recieved for images will factor into the judges final decision.
And by calling it "the sad truth" it would seem that you saw it as a bad practise
Jeremy R
2009-08-14, 01:32 PM
I would not have falsely won, because there are applications for viral sharing on the website I used. On that site it is a supported practise.
I don't care if it is the same, I am telling him it will not help him win.
Sad truth is that it won't help.
Can you just stop stalking me in every thread I post and wrongly analysing what I say?
