View Full Version : Best colour for unicycle powdercoating...
mowcius

I am looking for ideas of what colour to powdercoat a unicycle.
The things that have to stay black are the seat and spokes.
The hub is yellow (anyone had a hub powdercoated before?)
The frame, pedals, cranks, rim and seatpost are all going to be powdercoated... :)
Anyone got any idea of a colour scheme, any good ideas? But not silver because it costs me extra due to the extra lacquer or something...

Do it in a non-KH blue.

I had thought of blue but decided that it was probably a bit boring... Were you thinking of a lighter or darker than kh blue?
Would you have everything that colour?

I think i'm currently going towards the people who are saying green or orange.
I'm not sure whether to go with a fluoro green or khaki green if I went with green though... Maybe different camo colours on the pedals, rim, cranks, seatpost, hub, frame etc...

Nobody likes yellow or brown though.
If anyone has any cool colour schemes of their own then post pictures here :D

ok, one person likes yellow...
it would be helpful if people stated what colour it is if they say 'other'...

Rainbow. Tell the guy working there to just spray randomly from the containers he has left over.

That would be quite cool but I think it would cost me a lot as they just buy masive containers of powder and then fire it at it... It may also not come out very even if they did that... I'll have to ask!
It would be really cool though!

What color do you like? that should be your real question... I dont know why you would want to know what color I want to make your unicycle.

I agree. In the end we all post our opinions on colour, youll shoot most down cause you dont like it, and end up going with what you like.
Why people make threads for this is beyond me.

Yellow rocks!:) Powdercoat it in a very strange color, like... hmmm... Just make a mix of a couple of colors, like every part a different color. It would be pretty funny.

What have our opinions got to do with what color you're going to like? I like red. That doesn't mean it's the best color, or that you should want a red unicycle. No color is the best. Even if one color was the best, let's say KH blue, it start being un-best pretty quick because it's the same on all the unicycles.
So my "best" answer is "something not blue".

I do agree that I will end up going with what I like but people suggest colour schemes that I hadn't thought of and I may decide I want one of those.
I think it would be cool being multicoloured and I hadn't thought of that, I just don't think I can do it :(

do you think there may be a reason for there being very few garishly coloured unicycles?
Personally I quite like the idea of a dark grey frame and the rim, pedals and clamp in a colour. for example my uni has gold and a raw KH frame. My friends has a dark grey frame with white clamp and pedals with a black rim and rim tape, that looks awesome!
however in the end it is your choice. Try using photoshop to find the colours you like, or looking at other peoples unis to find things you like.

I have had a good look around but I am still open to ideas. I was thinking of going for a camo look, having the frame, rim, cranks etc all in slightly different shades of dark green...

the cammo look might be quite good. like a cammo frame, with a black rim and clamp. that would be cool. not sure about that with a yellow hub though. Im sure the powder coaters could cover the splined area of the hub and powder coat it cammo or black.

Yeah I would get the hub done camo or black too...
Due to the difficulties of powdercoating camo designs, i think that I will get the frame done a dark green and then do a camo design in coloured sticky back plastic like they can do on cars...

I go with orange.

I stenciled the black flame decals that are on the pallet onto the sides of the fork, going up from the hub.
It looked awesome, for a while, but it was just spray paint so it quickly wore off.
The uni is white with black griptape on the fork now:

A powdercoat won't wear off quite so quick :p

Go with something really unusual, like a color that would look old would be cool. The color of the green Miyata seatcover, it's not like the popular greens.

...really How many unicycle do you see that are yellow or pink???I ride with the Hoovers. Yellow unicycles, yellow helmets, yellow jerseys. Yellow car!
do you think there may be a reason for there being very few garishly coloured unicycles? If you mean from the manufacturers, the reason the KH frames are blue, is it's a nice-looking color that few people will be turned off by. You want your unicycles to be appealing, but without raising your costs, they all have to be one color (or at least one color per production run?).
But when you custom color your own, that's why you should do something different.

I'm surprised they let you ride with them.
Don't you feel conspicuous?

I'm surprised they let you ride with them.Nathan and Beau (and a bunch of other unicyclists) rode in my wedding (show). The show was after the wedding. All weddings should have a show, if you've got something interesting to show that is. :)
Don't you feel conspicuous?Usually I feel like I'm wearing camouflage. Or, I would be if I could keep up with them...

Yeah something like the first one. I do like the orange also. Probably something in between the two of them.
I don't like the silver seat post on the first one. I have a feeling that it's going to have:
Matt dark green frame
Matt black rim
Matt black seatpost
Matt black pedals
Black seat
Black spokes
Black tyre
Gloss orange hub
Gloss orange seatpost clamp...
So the same as the second one but with a black rim and orange hub...
I'm still open to cool suggestions though :D

Yeah especially as I have found a local-to-me company who will clean off the old paint and do the three different colours on the different parts for only £30. Deal or what? :D

No, its fits unicycle conversation better than anything. Which is why people say that talking about unicycles go into the unicycle section. Pretty simple concept.

All you'd have to do is get the powder and find someone to do it. NIC has a few different varieties of Pearl White powders. Here's One. (http://ebmhost13.estylez.net/iwwidb.pvx?;multi_item_submit) (EDIT: site doesn't like link. Go to link, click "Prismatic Powders", Click "View BY color", click "Black-Silver-White", scroll through until you see the one you like.)
So, in answer to your question, yes.

I would say orange, but I don't want you to copy my unicycle ;). JK I don't really care, because orange is my favorite color.
Purple is not a real color, but has Zen qualities
