Just a general BMX thread.
Discuss BMX bike parts tricks etc.
I am interested to see how many people ride bmx and unicycles.

I still have a bike in case I ever feel the urge to go and ride. Last time I rode I went over the handlebars and faceplanted the ground.

Yeah, I'm too lazy and ill-equipped to learn cool BMX tricks, but I can ride a pretty good wheelie now that I've been unicycling. :)
Here's the think I ride to work. I got it out of a dumpster, but by now, most of the parts have been swapped out except for the frame, pegs and the front sprocket. The rear sprocket that I have on now is smaller than the original, and the crank is also shorter so that I can go fast. :)
I can sit backwards on the handle bars and ride, and I like standing up on the back pegs with the seat in between my legs coasting no-hands.
I've even learned to stand on the rear pegs and pedal with one hand as the other one steers. That's some good arm exercise

I love BMX, but I like cruisers. I just like to take them to the track and jump with them. Not into freestyle tricks really. Just like to dirt jump and go fast.

Well if you like BMX you should check out my buddy Mike's latest video.
http://defgrip.net/v3/videos/mike_mastroni/
He did this edit for Defgrip and his sponsor Proper.
This kid is getting good, its so exciting to see a rider from my area making a name for himself in BMX. I can mention his name at any bmx shop in Boston or any of the popular ridding spots and someone knows him. Pretty cool.

Discuss BMX bike parts
I like BMX seat clamps. Especially the anodized ones that come in really cool colors. They make it easy for you to put a poppin' color scheme together for your ride.
People might talk smack about them, but I love the simplicity of a single bolt clamp. Of course, I throw away the bolt and nut that comes with my Odyssey clamp and replace it with a high-strength steel alloy set... I find most manufacturers skimp on the hardware, leading to stripped or rusted threads before too long.
The single bolt clamp allows for quick and easy seat adjustments, and with a fine thread bolt, I never have problems with the bolt coming loose.
Some clamps come with flanges that keep the clamp from sliding down the frame, but it's not an issue I think needs solving... if the flange is too wide, it can actually keep you from tightening the clamp as much as you'd like. I will have to admit, however, I've installed my seat clamps upside down before. Not a big deal, but the flange would've prevented that.
I'd go with a quick-release, if one were made that was strong enough, and had a lever that sat flush with the rest of the clamp. Why must all quick release clamps have a lever that begs to snag your pants, or your gloves, or whatever it can find? Maybe I need to design it myself.
Anyone else like BMX seat clamps?

I go for the quick release. That's what I like on all my cycles. I have not had any problems with them holding, but the one on my uni could be of a lower profile.
You might notice that the one on my BMX is actually bent out, but it has not caused any problems.

Thats pretty sick! I never got why once people get in one action sport, they cant enjoy the others. Oh well, I like more then one. It amazes me on the BMX how strong you have to be. Skates are relatively light in comparison, just take more balance. Unicycle seems more balance/coordination.

I liked that video sam. His style reminds me a lot of Ruben Alcantra.
I have been riding my bmx a bit this spring. I can bunny hop about a foot high and manual a bit. I can also do 180s but can't ride backwards out of them very well. I have gotten a lot more flats then I do with unicycling, which is probably because I am not very good and case edges and things.

I got a free bmx bike about 2-3 weeks ago. So far, i've practiced around 3 times, and I can bunnyhop-crankflip over a gap, grind (both pegs and pedal), get around 90 degrees when i try to 180, barspin on the back wheel when i'm standing on the pegs, and then just bunnyhop stuff. I am getting close to just doing a barspin on the back wheel, and hope to get a bunnyhop-barspin soon. Does anyone have any tips on barspins or 180s?
Also, does anyone have any ideas of other things to practice? Perhaps flatland stuff? Or anything else goes too.

Watch a bmx flat vid. You'll probably see wheelwalking on it. Usually it's done with the frame elevated and balanced on the front wheel. Then just walk the front wheel.

Love those bikes! Proper 90's bmx. All my bikes have been similar, fat, chunky and weigh a ton.
I hate all the modern bikes. All the guys I ride with are slightly younger than me and they are all obsessed with what their bikes look like and how much they weigh. I hate this craze about really low seats, how do they pedal when the're sitting down?

Lol, 35 is too light for me, the Hoffman weighed about 35, the 2-Hip was nearer 50.

Ta. I still have the 2-Hip frame, but I can't justify building it up just for it to gather dust. I love bmx's like this, you know they can handle what you can throw at them. I went down the route of getting an S&M Dirtbike, the piece of shit bent after a couple of crashes.

Yeah, I don't see the point in having a stupidly light bmx when you can do shit all on it, and are easily outdone by someone on a tank like the 2-Hip. My mate had a pic of me doing an Abubaca onto the barrel of the cannon in Fareham town centre, I'll see if he still has the pic.
Yeah, I saw when it bmx was starting to get over run with kids more concerned with how the bike looks that how it'll handle what they can do, a daft age for bmx.
I'm getting a much smaller 20" BMX, will be fixed up maybe tomorrow. I just like jumping with them which I cant do on the uni. Its a bike small enough for a 10 year old, I like lol. But I'm getting nicer cranks and better wheels on it. Should be pretty sturdy. I need to get better on the uni to muni or ride a BMX, I keep breaking my MTB on the trails. Gets frustrating lol, and I dont weigh anything?:confused:

Don't all of the 'pros' ride light bikes? Maybe I'm naive, but isn't a lighter bike going to handle better?
My old cheapie bmx weighed 40 something. I got onto a proper bmx, new kind, and it felt amazing. This kid didn't care about looks, he bough his stuff old and ugly. Made his bike ugly so people wouldn't steel it. You could tell he rode it. His was 25.
I think a 50lb bike is going to hold you back at some point. That is ridiculous. You don't need sub 20 with ti spindle and cranks and pedals, drilled everywhere, but 50 is rather outrageous.
My BMX will be 25 lbs. OK for me as 50 lbs is more then half my weight and wouldnt be fun at all for me. Nowadays, they can make things stronger with less weight. I cant lift a 30 lb bike, 25 lbs is pretty good, the race 20 lb. or less arent made to be sturdy so I pass. I wont ride aluminum any more for a bike. On my MTB I bent the rear stays and seriously, I dont weigh much! Just jumping logs I did that. At least if I snap the uni frame, I can get a nimbus for cheap compared to a bike.

If any of you are looking to buy a BMX bike I've got something you might want to take a look at. I'm selling my BMX bike because unicycling has taken over my life and I have no time for two wheels any more. Most of the parts on the bike are Primo, but it has an Easton frame and a Kink sprocket. I purchased it from one of my friends who owns his own bike shop. He used to be a semi-professional BMX racer and this was the bike he raced on for a few years. It's exactly 30 lbs and any damage to it is just scratches. There are no cracks or bends on any parts. I have zip ties on the frame to keep the brake cable next to the frame. The fork also has a pretty cool finish on it.
PLEASE MAKE AN OFFER. Even if you don't want to buy it, could you tell me what you think it's worth? I've got an idea of what I should sell it for, but I don't want to say something way off and sound stupid.
Here are the pictures (WARNING: LOTS OF PICTURES):

You would think that, but if you'd have doubts if you saw what I could do on my 2-hip. Me and my mate for example, very close skill levels, we could equal eachother on most things, apart from he could barspin (I never bothered to learn them), and I could jump a lot higher. Whenever we swapped bikes, he couldn't ride mine for shit, and I was no different on his bike than I was on mine (apart from the fact I didn't like his light bike). That looks cool, apart from the uncomfy looking seat, lol.
Someone over here it set on getting me bmxing again, so out of curiosity I priced up a bmx that'd stand up to how I used to bmx. £1333.53 is what it'd cost, so unless he's paying for it he can forget the idea of me bmxing again.
On another note, what the hell is going on nowadays with having to buy a BB kit when you buy a set of cranks? I used to be able to get Primo Powerbite's at £110 with bearings, now places are charging £125 for Hollowbite's and want another £20+ for the bearings that should be with the cranks anyway.

Yeah, I don't think everybody needs a 20lb bmx. I don't think it matter to much until you get rediculously good.
I like the feel of lighter bikes a lot, I think that comes from unicycling. I'm just not used to tossing around so much weight 35lb+. I feel sluggish. Lighter bikes feel more natural. The bmx I rode was 25-8 and it felt comfortable.
