That thread doesn't explain spriting at all.
I do like it though, it is one of my favorite soft drinks.
I hereby, nominate myself as the winner.

I second habbywall.
I'll second DWAS but only if he's willing to accept an honourable second place, which I will third, if someone else will second.
And I'll have a Mountain Dew, thanx.

And Mountain Dew is too sweet for me. Sprite is my usual soft drink of choice for lunch.

Sprite is really fizzy though, sometimes that works against it. It also makes me burp like crazy, which can be a good thing because I've learned to control it so I can burp on command for about an hour or two after downing a bottle.

I have the formula for Sprite 768, BTW. (http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=954323&postcount=1458) It's open-source. You're welcome.

Bottled Sprite, yes. Fountain Sprite, no. Soda fountains >> bottled soda.
Most flat sodas are quite nasty, IMHO, but flat Sprite, for some reason, is divine. Give 'er a try sometime.

One thing I experimented with when I worked at Marble Slab Creamery were interesting floats/ice cream sodas....I found that Sprite and raspberry ice cream made an absolutely wonderful and refreshing product. Mmmmm, I miss the free sweets.

I don't get how to make a sprite, basically it's a little piece of pixel art, but how do you make it semitransparent (which wikipedia says sprites are) and stuff? Can you give an example?

I got nailed by a nasty virus-puppy recently which lead to severe vomiting and diarrhoea. This hit me at around midnight so we were caught without having any medicine type stuff in the house. By two in the morning I was running on empty when Beloved came up with the inspired idea of mixing some Sprite we had in the fridge with water.
The resulting unbrew not only tasted rather yummy, it also stayed down and made me feel a lot better.
I did go to the medicos the next morning and ended up on a drip to sort out the dehydration issues, but it would've been worse if I didn't have the Sprawter.
It's become a regular drink around our place now.

Wow, thanks for taking something serious and turning it into bullshit. Very nice of you people. Even after the line that said (i want to be taken seriousy) it didnt occur to you this wasnt the most replys thread?
On a more serious note;
I don't get how to make a sprite, basically it's a little piece of pixel art, but how do you make it semitransparent (which wikipedia says sprites are) and stuff? Can you give an example?
Spriting is basicly just art in pixel form.
Pixel art.
The sprite (or picture) cannot be semi transparent unless you use a program that senses a certain color to be transparent.
An example of a sprite:
http://www.rmxp.de/nopaste/data/1224958644_Beispiel.png
or
http://www.mogunet.net/~mack/looseleaf/img/50.png
or ( the best thing to start fooling around with)
Mario
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l195/serithica/mariocharacterset2.png
Play around with the mario sprite. just take the first frame and add little things until you are satisfied. That will start you out. then you can create a unicycle sprite eventually!

My pop would put a little brandy in sprite and give it to me when I had a cold. Said it would quiet my cough... sure did... I'd always fall asleep!
His medicine cabinet had three things in it: a knife, a roll of tape and a bottle of brandy. Sooner or later, everyone in my house (including the cats) got the "hot knife" treatment, such as when a boil appeared.

You wouldnt do this kinda shit to foss or gilby, or harper. That's because we know better than to put rules on a thread. You learn something new every day (though in your case you should shoot for many things per day). Today's lesson is that threads with rules don't work. Calling people pricks generally makes it worse.
If it continues ill get help. You could use some help. Tomorrow you may learn where help comes from in here.
My advice to you for now is to stop creating threads for a while (which I recommend to almost anybody). Read more, post less. Look at how some of the other people write to see why others listen to them. Come back stronger, smarter and more forum-friendly.

Not sure when ill finish cause im not sure when ill have a good amount of freetime to just sit at home.

This was a contest thread, it was meant to be serious.
All the other contest threads i have ever come across i have seen rules.
I am tired of being made fun of for my opinions, for what i beleive, and for what i post. I dont post racial slurs, i dont post nonsence. I post things that have meaning, and that are not scarcastic or directed to anybody meanly. A good tip would be to start at the rim of the wheel. Use the circle tool and make a partly isometric standpoint out of it. Then create width within the rim, then the tire. It goes on and on. Ill mess around and give you a good start for it.

I was off visiting a friend at college today and had two bottles of sprite. I must agree with what was previously posted in that it's the bottles that are so fizzy. The can's are still very fizzy, but not near as much as the bottles.
I'm not to big a fan of flat sprite, but when I'm in a certain mood it tastes swell. It's sorta like its own different flavored soda.

The fact is, you never explained what a sprite was. The link you offered tells how to make sprites, but not what a sprite is. What's a sprite?
But here's another suggestion for having a thread with a specific topic. PUT THE TOPIC IN THE THREAD TITLE. Two words is at least one word too short. In your case, something like "Sprite-making competition for console video games" or similar. Don't feel bad, you're like the 100th person I've suggested to use longer thread titles. But better yet, don't create threads.

Awesome. Way to hold a contest. If you don't like someone's entry, then tell 'em they're cheating. Why didn't I think of that?
Why can't we shrink things with paint? They look better, IMHO. If I were making a game, I'd use sprites made this way.

Well, im taking it as an oldschool art. Making full designs with only 4 shades. White, black, and two shades of grey. Like the did for the gameboy.
Only have a 16px-16px to create a character that still shows detail and with limited amount of colors.
Starting out like they did in the begining is pretty hard, then trying to create stuff as high quality as Capcom did with their street fighter characters.
Anyone can take a stock picture and shrink it down. Thats easy. Can you actually draw that character? Then add animation? Thats the fun part.

You have the thought in mind, just try to elaborate more. I dont think it would have looked bad at all if you spent more than 4 minutes on it.

That made me lol. I enjoy your humor. Try and make a unicycle, but more detailed. Add different shades to give it depth.

Still, give him the benefit of the doubt. He might've just used that picture as his reference. Don't immediately say he's cheating just cause his result is good.

I've seen a lot of shops in my time, and the shadows are all wrong.

You're right, the shades are all out of proportion.

Nice idea, Shay. I have a friend who did spriting for a while. He liked making Megaman comics. I've had a go at spriting in the past and it didn't turn out well, so I don't think I'm going to try again any time soon.
As for defining what a sprite is, you need to be more clear. I guessed it was this type of spriting when I came here only because I've had some experience with them, but for the lay folk, I'll try my hand at helping define what a sprite is for the competition.
Basically, it's character designed and created with pixels, usually with a 256 color scheme. It is not just something that was drawn in paint, but something that is designed on a small scale with a minimal mindset to get the basic idea of the character's shape and how it looks.
Some examples of this would be the characters from older and still some newer game-boy games. Think of pokemon, especially the older versions, you could see each pixel very clearly. Each character and object was a result of designing a sprite to represent that.
Here are a few examples:

And this is a more detailed sprite:

For further reading, here is the Wikipedia page for sprites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprite_(computer_graphics)).
Anyway, have fun! I can't wait to see some more unicycle sprites.

I might try my hand at some spriting in Paint later; question: what pixel dimensions should I start with for normal-sized characters/objects?

If you want to be old-school. 16x16.

Yeah, what jer said, 16x16, or if you want to you can take the paint tool(not pencil) and click the biggest square brush, and make the number five like on dice.
