fake calls. Works for both. Its a program that you open, and it calls you, asks you questions like a phone so you can fake a call if you don't feel like talking to someone. :P

Dont pay for any of it! Muwahahaha!
Im not into apps. The only thing I sometimes use is a quick game of tetris or whatever is on the phone I am using at the time. Otherwise its stashed away. EDIT: If my battery lasted mroe than an hour id probably be different. Some would be nice on the long car rides and all.

Some good music. Especially Pink Floyd.
My idea for an iPhone/Touch application is an app that says either "Your music rocks!" or "Your music sucks" based on what music is on the iPod/iPhone. It would be free as a public service.

Urban Spoon: cool restaraunt finderTHAT'S THE ONE!
I saw a commercial for that one last night, and it was one of the few things that made me want an iPhone. It's like a little slot machine app to help you pick a restaurant. How often have you and your friends said:
'Let's go out.'
'Okay, where?'
'I don't know.'
'Well, what kind of food do you want?'
'I don't know.'
'You pick.'
'No, you pick.'
Where I used to work, somebody made a little web app that was a virtual "food spinner" for when we couldn't decide where to go. It would randomly pick a place off our little list. This one's much better, and you shake the phone to start it spinning.
The other thing that made me want an iPone was actually getting to play with one, a month before they hit the market. They're still cool. I'm just on a corporate phone plan with T-Mobile, so I don't get a choice...

Jay, your avatar has jpeg compression artifacts. That bothers me. Really really bothers me. I hate jpeg artifacts. For my sanity please please use a higher quality setting to compress your avatar.
Thanks

Is there anything for the Touch (with version 2 firmware) that will allow it to allow it to sync music using third party apps (something other than iTunes)?

Pretty sure you have to jailbrake it to do anything like that. It would be pretty easy for a tech savy guy like yourself.

I just used paint to quickly make it. I don't like spending money on editing programs. I don't think it looks too bad, and it dosen't bother me. But if it would help you, I would love to change it. could you tell me how to do this without spending any money on extra programs? or is there another format that I should be setting it to?
sorry everyone for the quick off topic disscusion, and thanks everyone for giving me ideas, Ihave already found some great apps!

Paint doesn't give you an option to select the jpeg compression level when you save as a jpeg. You're stuck with the default compression.
You can use IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/) or Paint.NET (http://www.getpaint.net/). Both are free programs. Both will allow you to select the jpeg compression level when you save as a jpeg. Experiment with different compression levels till you find a good compromise that minimizes compression artifacts yet keeps the image file size below 19 KB or less. Hopefully you have a BMP file of your avatar that has the solid pink without the jpeg artifacts. Open the BMP file in IrfanView or Paint.NET, save the file as a jpeg and experiment with different compression levels.
If you look closely at the pink areas around the unicycle and around your figure you can see blocky areas in the pink. Those blocks are jpeg compression artifacts. If you look at the picture of the dog that maestro8 posted you can also see obvious jpeg compression artifacts. Higher jpeg quality levels for compression can eliminate all visible jpeg artifacts but will result in a larger file size.
My comment about your avatar was tongue-in-cheek. I hope you took it as such. Consider it a PSA about the hazards of too much jpeg compression. Parents really should teach their children about these things.

ipods are lame

ipods are lame
Not lame, but they may be about to jump the shark. Apple is getting more proprietary with the Touch. The Touch is clearly the future of the full size iPod line. The old Classic style interface on the full size iPod is dead. The Touch and iPhone are locked down much tighter than the classic iPod. You can't use third party tools to sync with them. You have to use iTunes. Apple has never been officially open to third party tools, but third party tools have been able to reverse engineer what they needed to be able to operate and sync with the iPod. Not so with the Touch and iPhone.
The iPod is becoming more and more proprietary. It is becoming more like a Zune -- Locked down and can't be used with third party tools to sync and manage.
There is an opening for more open alternatives. All we need is an open alternative that is actually better than the classic iPod. Something with gapless playback, excellent audio quality, and good management of a large number of files. Gapless playback is key. Right now the iPod and Zune have a corner on that market. Nobody else (other than Rockbox) does gapless playback.
I have an iPod Classic (80 GB) because it was the best option at the time, and still is. It does gapless playback and has adequate sound quality. The other MP3 player makers need to step up and meet or exceed the bar set by the iPod.

Features of an iPod while the format of a usbdrive is what I want, and have.
I like just being able to plug the product in, and just drag and drop the songs into it, all arranged by the file name I give them, and not the artist tag, album tag, and other tag options.
I dont remember if my Sansa has gapless playback. I dont remember hearing a gap between songs, and one of the songs on there is a full song but made into 8 tracks for the cd (Played live its just the full 40-50ish min long song and is amazing). But I agree gapless is a must for me as well.

The iPhone and the iPod touch aren't about playing music, that is just a feature. They are really PDAs that play music.

The Touch is more than just an MP3 player, but it also happens to be a very handy MP3 player. A nifty interface.
My prediction is that as soon as flash memory gets cheap enough for enough capacity Apple will retire the full size Classic style iPod and switch to the Touch. The line will be the small Nano style for active use and ultimate portability and the Touch for full size with more capacity.
The Touch is very nice but I'm not going to get one if it continues to be tied to only iTunes. Same reason that I'm not interested in a Zune. I want to be able to use something other than iTunes or the Zune software to sync and manage my music library.
