Who here does fire arts, i.e. fire staff, fire clubs, fire poi, fire breathing, etc?
I can do double fire staffs, and going to be learning to fire breath (yes, I know it's dangerous, don't lecture me)
Also, has anyone tried doing any of these things on a unicycle? Ive done single staff on it, but not with the fire.
Hope you are all well~

i've been known to chuck around the fire clubs on occassion. The thing about fire is that it's only really good for performance work, for anything else it just decreases the technical scope of the apparatus, and increases the cost and risk.

I occasionally swing fire poi and clubs. I've also got a fire diabolo but it's a bit rubbish. My son likes it though.

We made some pretty cool fire poi at our flat at the start of the year...sometimes go onto the roundabout next to our house and spin them, got a honk from a fire engine once that was nice. I've also done a bit of fire stick, it's fun, might try make one of those this summer.

I successfully juggled 3 firefly fire juggling balls on my kh20. Only flatland riding though. Doing it at the same time as doing trials would be cool
Not dangerous.
Deadly.
Fire Breathing will result in damage to your lungs and you end up with a permanent condition very similar to pneumonia.
Did I mention it was permanent?
It will also weaken the structure of your teeth and they'll start crumbling eventually.
This is over and above the risks of burning yourself.
Don't avoid lectures.
Just don't do it.

I do a fair amount of fire dance and performance with one of my groups in Eugene. I do devil sticks and pass torches on 7 foot giraffe. The group does just about every fire prop under the sun.
We recently headlined Eugene Celebrations. I made a video:

yes that's the fun part
and as for the fire breathing argument, i remember once reading a report of a pro who had an accident. The sentence "after 2 months they started teaching me how to breath by myself again" has stuck in my mind ever since.

Yup, i remember that story. I think it is stickied on homeofpoi.com's forum.
It looks like I have a gig for bonfire night, so that should be fun. Hopefully someone will record it or take some decent pics.

I don't but I have a few friends who do different fire arts. One of them was one of the fire-dancers at the Saskatoon Fireworks Festival. She did those fire fan things and fire poi but one of her poi kept going out.
I need to make myself some poi, they are fun and look amazing when you add fire to the mix.

I went to the preshow to the Bloodmoon Regale in Sacramento a few weeks ago. The best part: the whip that was lit on fire and when cracked lit up the sky. It was sweet.
There was poi and fire staffs and bellydancing with bowls of fire on their head as well.
I have to mention Ivan's Torche (http://www.supremefire.com/story.html)s here again.
Its not like I'm on commission or anything, they're just really awesome.
If I was still working actively in the juggling/entertainment industry, I would buy a set at the drop of a hat.

That vid was awsum
Now im interested ;)
How do you learn the tricks with the staff?
Is it just a matter of just twirling it around yourself and making your own combos before lighting it?

interesting, ive been thinking for years that a torch with a pressurised gas canister in the handle, piezo electric ignitor, possible a cut out for if you drop it would be a great piece of kit that comes on and off at the touch of a button with no smoke or bad fumes.

The combination of pressurised gas, flames and drops from height sounds thoroughly explosive!

True, but we don't fire-juggle because we're trying to be sensible or anything.
At least we don't do fire blowing.

yeah some of the finer points need ironing out, but a torch that doesnt require lighters or open buckets of fuel, and which goes out if you drop it is deffinitely a step i the right direction in terms of convenience and safety.

Convenience and safety? Wouldn't that negate half the point of fire?

well i dont think inconvenience is part of the fun, and it would still offer opportunities to get badly burnt
I'm with kington, we need the microwave oven of firetoys.

I often play with fire with a home-made furnace. Here I am almost getting branded across the forehead by a piece of red hot pottery at 1000 degrees centigrade

:) Ha ha! Hang on though....'middle-aged', I think I left that behind a bit back :( and I'm more into Harry Krishna these days, pottering around as I do :)

I can fire breathe, fire eat, and do Fakia, not had an incedent with either, I got bored of inevitable dribbling of parafin down my beard, so I haven't done any fire arts since about a year ago.
I don't miss the parafin flavour burps at all.
