With all these new threads from people asking things like "Wash yourself up or down in the shower?" or "Would you give your life for another?", I want to ask you all,

If you could bring anyone back from the dead for a 3-hour interview/conversation, who would it be?

It could be a famous person, or one of your relatives. It's your choice. Who would it be?

If you have multiple people, make a little list.

Mine is...

1. Thomas Edison (come on, the man was a genius)
2. Albert Einstein (also a genius)
3. Mitch Hedberg (just a really funny dude)
4. My grandfather (I never met him, but I was named after him so I really want to meet him)

Can it be a fictional character?

Can it be a fictional character?

Sure, why not? But do you have any real people in mind?

No. Talking to dead people is creepy.

But in books, I'd talk to Eddard Stark (who died in the series) and ask him why the eff he ever thought he could outsmart Cersei Lannister or trust Petyr Baelish.

Well if you brought tham back they wouldn't be dead now, would they?

Also, I have no idea what you were just talking about. But it seems like a fair answer to my question.

They'd be undead! :eek::eek:

And sorry, it's from the book series I'm reading now, Eddard pissed me off even though he was my favorite character before he died.

Okay, so we'd all be talking to zombies. But at least they'd be knowledgeable zombies that don't want to feast on your flesh...

Haha, say what? Are you talking about me or the Soccer guy Pele? Or a different one.

For me it would probably be my dad or my dad's dad, but I'll post if I think of something else.

Edit: Jesus Christ would be a good candidate as well. I would like to see the man himself, that would be cool.

Thomas Edison was a thief. The man you want is Nikola Tesla.

Thomas Edison also made many inventions. It's said that on average, he had 1 new patented invention every week, and over a thousand in his life. Every six months he came out with a major invention that changed the world forever.

Tesla would be cool, too.

Thomas Edison was a thief. The man you want is Nikola Tesla.Which one did Tesla invent, the phonograph or motion pictures? Edison was like the Bill Gates of hardware. He knew how to invent, and he also was famous for fighting over ownership. He's the reason why the movie industry is on the West coast (to get away from being chased down and prosecuted/persecuted for infringing on his patent(s)).

He was very deaf/hard of hearing before he died.

1. My brother
2. Jesus (get his version of things)
3. Benjamin Franklin (he should be interesting)

Yeah man, who needs english anyway when you speak Jesus' native tongue :p?

I'd translate the conversation for y'all (though i probably wont understand much since this was 2,000 years ago.

And thanks Joe, but I'm not dead. You would have to kill me if you want to talk to me after I die ;)

Or just kinda wait it out, that works too...

edit: add my Dad's Dad's Dad to my list :p. Good ol' Max Schramm. I was always kinda interested in him but know absolutely nothing other than he was a doctor and died in his early fifties. My dad never met him. I think Max'es dad's name was Adolph. I guess I'd like to meet him too... I'm not sure if they spoke english or hebrew though, I may need to learn some german...

Thomas Edison was a thief. The man you want is Nikola Tesla.
Someone hasn't read much history...

Edison was a dynamo of invention. The guy hardly slept, he spent so much time working in his laboratory... upwards of 18 hours each day. Edison didn't just bring ideas to life, he commercialized and mass-produced them... everything from light bulbs to batteries to kinetoscopes. I don't see how you could call the guy a thief, 'cause he sure didn't have much time to leave the lab, let alone go and steal something.

Edison brought entertainment to the masses, as well as power to several municipalities on the east coast, and he did so quite cheaply... there still exist several companies (such as ConEdison and Edison Int'l) that still bear his name. You may have heard of another company he founded: General Electric.

What you might be referring to are the many patent disputes Edison became entangled in. Many inventors of the day were jealous of his widespread success and resorted to legal wrangling to get a slice of the pie... sound familiar? Edison ended up buying off a lot of his competition to further his own success, and left quite a few would-be entrepreneurs in the dust.

Tesla, on the other hand, wasn't very successful in commercializing his inventions... especially the ones that were borderline science-fiction, like his ion-powered flying machine. Although he pioneered a lot of research in applied electromagnetism, his attempts to bring them to market weren't always successful. Tesla was such a lunatic, the man was even forced out of his own company, Tesla Electric. The poor dude ended up dying alone and in debt.

You still think Tesla is the man? A tortured genius, perhaps...

He was very deaf/hard of hearing before he died.
Actually, Edison was hard of hearing for the majority of his life... I think he became quite sick as a child and wasn't the same ever since. He claimed to have benefitted from this handicap, saying it helped him concentrate in his lab despite the fact that there were dozens of other people working in the same building.

Many great facts there to support my decision. Thank you, maestro.
