He's saying that he got the idea (to put dry ice and hot water in a bottle, put a hole in the cap, and put on the cap) from a video online. The hole wasn't big enough and it blew up in his face. It was freaky, i was right next to him and I saw the bottle getting inflated and then I reached out and it was like slomo, and then it blew up. I got soaked, he got hurt. We didn't get it on video.

I feel no pity for your failure.
edit: But pics would be nice. And what'd you tell your parents? I'm sure they would be happy to here your making explosives that detonate conveniently in your face.

Are you implying that his parents and the other observers were encouraging him to build the bomb?

It wasn't meant to explode. It was just supposed to let a strong stream of fog out of the hole in the cap.

Hole smole, it blew up because you used hot water. Hot water makes it happen too fast. You are supposed to use cold water to give you time to get away.

He just had a y nose and a swollen lip. Nothing horrible, but purdy scary. Unless anything changed since last night.

who says there's no such thing as evolution?I think you mean natural selection. Bombs don't make you evolve much. :)
You are supposed to use cold water to give you time to get away. Or not. In case you never noticed, there's a fine line between a rocket and a bomb. If you got it "right" you might have had a little rocket shooting around your Halloween party.
Sorry you got a facefull of cap and dryness. The fact that you posted here about it tells us the most important thing, you're not in the ICU because of it. Now you're smarter than you were before this happened. Unless you think it was someone else's fault.
For "safer" fun with dry ice, here's a few things you can try:
- Use a small piece to play air hockey on a formica or stone counter or tabletop. It has to be very level (and fairly clean) for it to work well.
- Put some in a glass of water, then drink the water. Great for Halloween. Not recommended for the kiddies though. It's important to only drink the water!
- Put it in a larger (open) container of water, for a spooky effect. The water bubbles and a layer of fog forms on top Great if you're doing a haunted house and an area like the bathroom is included, where you can do it in the toilet and tub!
If I remember correctly, the temp. of dry ice is -112 degrees farenheight. It burns! I used to work with it when I delivered ice cream.

The school I work at makes dry ice bombs as a science demonstration once a year. There is definitely a safe way to do it. We don't let the kids any where near them, of course.
