I believe the wikipedia article on unicycling has some info on this...
Street unicycling
Invented by Dan Heaton in 1999, Street is a form of riding that combines freestyle and trials. The cliche definition is a style that uses trial obstacles to set up freestyle moves. Street however does have moves that are distinctly its own, such as rail grinding or hopping stair sets. Major contributors have been such names as Mike Clark (invention of the Crankflip, current record holder for longest handrail grind), Brian Lundgren (invention of the Backflip), and Shaun Johanneson (everything else).
Mountain unicycling
Also known as MUni, Mountain Unicycling was created sometime back in the late 1980s. It is not known who the originator was, but Kris Holm is without a doubt the biggest innovator and contributor.
not that much, but I'm sure a bit of research on your part would reveal much more.

No MUni history is complete without a tip of the hat to George Peck (http://www.theatlantic.com/issues/97apr/uni.htm), who released the first MUni video: "Rough Terrain Unicycling"
The Unicycle.uk.com site has an excellent page on the history of MUni (http://www.unicycle.uk.com/muni.asp).
