what is that little yellow slot right by the longer yellow video card slot? It's really small and has 2 slots in it.

That's a PCI-e x1 slot (PCI Express, smallest connection).

Just like it's bigger brother, PCI-e x16, it's a slot for an add-on card... it just offers lower performance. Use it for extra serial ports, USB or the like.
