After getting home from about a 3 hour ride, I was changing my shirt when I realized I had one of the worst farmer tans I've ever had in my life. Now I have to find a way to get rid of it before school starts in 10 days

Whatever you do, don't use tanning beds...I think those are worse for your skin than the sun.

If your at school why do you have to worry about a farmers tan?

Farmer tans here aren't the best thing to have...you get tons of crap from people especially girls. Also, I just don't like 'em. All my shirt sleeves end about 3/4 of an inch before the tan line so there's like this white ring around my arm.

Full tans are a sign that you have too much idle time to lie in the sun doing nothing. A farmers tan is a sign that you are active and doing things outside. An active person is a healthier and stronger person. In a world where logic was king the farmers tan would be more desirable.

Put sun block on the ''farmers parts'' and then sunbathe the white parts.

My grandpa was a farmer... I know I don't want one.

haha. I have a beastly farmers tan. I even got a sunburned in farmers tan while attending a demolition derby. (thats one of the most possibly redneck things ive ever said.)

same with the back of my neck and my actual arms. My arms and neck are like the true tan-tan. Where, it feels like i'm actually darker skinned. Yeah, same goes for my legs. But my legs have tons of scars. and my tan on my legs stops a little above my knee, then just gets white and hairy.

I have a pretty hard-core farmer tan too. I must say, I'd rather have my rich-boy white skin back again... I feel your pain.
Your pic looks like you're from the coast... I'm there a lot. we should ride sometime. And you should come to Spokane too.

When you say full tan do you mean everythings tan(including waist to knees)? Or do you just mean tan upper body(I have)? Mines not from a tanning salon though. Tanning salons are a big waist of time to me. Plus I think its like paying for cancer. Why not get cancer for free?

Either way. But a full tan (including waist to knees and below the ankles) is worse. It is a proportional scale.

What about all the construction workers and manual laborers who have full tans because they take their shirts off? (Granted, less cancer is healthier than more cancer - but I tell ya, I couldn't keep my shirt on back when I was doing that stuff. White clothes only keep you cooler if you aren't generating lots of heat yourself.)

I believe what he meant was that rich people generally don't need to work outside. So, while a farmer's tan makes you look like a farmer, no tan makes you look like a rich boy. There was nothing racial about it. Turn your "easily offended dial" down a few notches.

That's OK as long as they're not overweight or have a beer gut. ;)

Wear a t-shirt made from wicking synthetic fabric (like cycling jerseys) and you'll be cooler as well as getting UV protection.

Most of the time when I'm outside in the sun I'm doing something like cycling or unicycling. That means I've got a shirt (jersey) on and am likely wearing a hydration pack or my knapsack. So I sport a good old farmers tan and am proud of it.

You are forgetting the infamous triangle tan.
There is nothing like taking your undies off and having a dazzlingly bright white pair on underneath.

I could signal ships with mine.

and John, i worked for mine. 4 hours everyday.

I've had a nice farmers tan all my life, living out in the boonies of Arizona will do that to you. No one can tell though, because I'm always wearing a t-shirt (hence the tan...)

I'm really sorry.
When I said "rich-boy" skin, I meant really pale-white since wealthy white people, for some time, preferred pale skin since tan skin, since a tan implied that you labored and wern't part of the well-to-do classes. Which I prefer to I must say...

It wasn't meant to be racial or offensive. I'm so sorry... Forgive me please? :)

Agreed, but you wouldn't want to wear clothes like that while working construction, and especially in my case pouring concrete. Nice clothing doesn't last long. :)

My friend is covered in freckles!!! His back is like one giant freckle. He has so many that they've all fused together. Its pretty funny looking.

Anybody ever had a Truckers Tan? That's where only the left arm gets tanned from resting on the driver's door with the window down (right arm in the UK).

You can also get this from riding with the sun on only one side of your body all day.

Most of my tan is a form of Farmer's Tan. Any sun my upper bod takes is significantly less than my arms, neck, and head. The upper bod just can never catch up.

Whoah, run that past me again: you don't know what it means, but you do know that you are deeply offended by it?

It is patently clear that no offence was intended by the remark.

I don't have a farmers tan. I have a 4-tone tan. My fore arms are the darkest, then from my elbow to my shoulders is a lighter shade, then my back is a little lighter then that, and my chest/stomach is the lightest, although still tanned a little.
