Actually it does bother me greatly. I would appreciate it if you took it off. It's not the point that people have seen it. Just wanted it to go through for proof. I don't want it on there since everyone posts footage online for free and I think i'm better than that. I think a lot of riders are better than posting videos online for free too, however it's their choice. It's something I no longer want to take part in. As the owner of my footage, it should be my choice what to do with it, not someone else's.
-Shaun Johanneson
p.s. I'm ok with all that I have already online too, so don't try to get me with that. I choose to keep it on there since it got me Columbia and footage deals with wacked out and ecko.

Basically Shaun doesn't want to put videos on the internet any more, but he is keeping the old ones on there because they got him deals and sponsors with people. I presume Shaun is just going to make dvds now, which is a shame as loads of us will no longer be able to see Shaun's new tricks and vids. Awesome trick though Shaun!
Wait... does this mean round 2, 3 and any others will be exclusively on DVD? I hope not the last one was amazing!!!

Not for nothing, but I don't intend upon buying it unless the riding is top notch.
It was great in round 1, but for 8 minutes, i'd only pay about 3 or 4 dollars.. And that might even be pricey for 8 minutes.

Shaun is basicly saying that everyone should pay to see footage of him when there's other riders that are more interesting to watch (free).

Yeah I can understand his thread asking people if they would pay for the tutorial dvd because that is him teaching but for him not to allow this short clip of the sej is kind of elitist, and not something I would expect from this community.

You guys are all too young to understand though.
When you get to my age unicycling is useless if it's bringing nothing in. I don't have that type of time for even "fun". You'll learn this when you guys get older though.

Your right I dont understand.
You don't have fun Unicycling anymore?
Professional skaters still have fun.
Do you feel like you would have more fun if you sold your work.
And may I suggest If you do start only releasing your work for profit that you make a downloadable way to acess the videos. This way you cut out S&H and you get all the profit and the price is also lower for the consumers.
Just becasue you will not release free internet content does not mean that you cannot release internet content for a small fee per video or a membership only website.

Not bashing on you or anything, but Phil Sanders is 21, spent more money on his uni then his car cost, and that was just the purchase of the uni, now lets all add up all cost for all the tubes he pops. =p
Joe Cambell is 23, also a great rider who placed well at Naucc.
Theres qute a few people of your age, me im 19, so close, and a lot who are older than you and still riding for the love of riding, even when they are also really good riders.
I too would love to bring in money fom riding and videos though. Maybe another DVD project should be in order. Surpass Defect.

Shaun's in his third year of college and has managed to keep extremely good grades. I don't know for sure but a lot of the unicyclists on here that are older seem to have either completed college and have gone back to riding... or simply haven't started yet (Let me know for sure Jerrick). I think that when he say's you're older he's really getting at when you have to pay for everything yourself, work, go to college and keep up good grades, and stay up with the top riders of the sport that it gets difficult. (I forgot to mention taking care of a girlfriend.. lol) I think he's beginning to realize that he has to cut something out of his schedule because he doesn't have enough free time like some of the other riders do.
Emile, quit trying to bait everyone into not liking shaun, it's pretty annoying. You don't like him, it's apparent, but when you keep throwing generalizations about him all you're doing is sounding like an asshole.
As for "round 2" costing money, i doubt it will. It's not Shaun alone, it's also Kelly and Spencer. So quit those talks until something about actually having to pay for that would come out.
Phil you beast! With a little TLC and a lot of money im sure your car could make it out to NAUCC next year, yes? I'll be sad if you don't :P (Goes for all the spokane peoples)
Please note: My thoughts do not reflect the actual opinion of Shaun Johanneson. Only what I believe is the actuality of his thinking or at least what mine might be in that situation. K Thx!

Shaun's in his third year of college and has managed to keep extremely good grades. Considering you're 16 i'm assuming you haven't gone to college yet? I may be wrong. What do you do for a job and how many hours a week do you work? And what exactly is your regular schedule? If the only thing on your to do list is highschool during the school year, then i might not have to try any harder to prove that point to you.
I'm answering more for the reasoning of this sport going somewhere with money. Not so much for Shaun. I just happened to agree with that. I might defend Shaun but only because he's not on at weird hours like I am and I don't think some of you see beyond some of his past comments and like to hold a huge grudge. I think we understand you don't want to pay to see Shaun, we get it. Would you pay to see Shaun, loic, adrien, kelly, arthur, spencer, kristian and other riders? Probably yes. Shaun brought up an idea about having an actual filming team that wouldn't matter if you were sponsored or not or what team you are apart of. I don't think it was a terrible idea either.
Dallas m
2008-07-30, 11:40 AM
Also the point of shaun having all those things and "having a life like everyone else" as you put it, is that he needs to drop something out of his schedule because he has an extra amount of classes this year and he'd like to keep unicycling and stay with the top of the game. He would have to drop something from his schedule or cut some other things down and it's becoming less worth it to him.
Once again my comments do not actually reflect the opinions of shaun... blah blah blah I've just known him for a long time and I actually haven't spoken to him much in the past 2 weeks so all this crap i have no idea of his actual opinion. K THX!

I'm 16, I have a job and I go to school. My schedule isn'T regular but I work 3 or 4 days a week. Then you'll say that's not much, well, for me it is. Shaun'S college isn't so much more work then high school is for me right now or somebody else. Everything is proportionnal, IMO.
I have a friend, he's 21, he goes to university, he went to ride the lobster and he rides trial for fun. He has the time too. He want to have good grade too. He can still ride for fun. (Vincent Lemay).

I think Emile ment that he wouldn't pay for a 6 minute vid like Round 1, and I totaly agree with him (unless you will only charge like a symbolic 1 dollar)
Do we want this sport to go all commercial and competetive like BMX skateboarding? I don't think so.

lol,
It's true I don't have fun anymore, unless i'm with other riders, like NAUCC (Pele hit the nail on the head, thanks man), MikealHerbert (spelling? sorry man your post is not on this page. lol) got it right as well. Like Dallas has been saying, if I made some money off of this I could cut working hours a bit out of my life opening up more time. Fun unicycling? Maybe the assortment of flips I have on flat or whatever can be fun for a bit, but progressive riding. That's not fun. I don't like being afraid, some people get a high off of it, but staring down rails or flips to rails, or set tricks isn't fun. It's all for the footage of it to hopefully get picked up in the next seasonal video.
Progressive = not fun
Casual = fun, but no improvement
And come on, you really think i'm going to quit this sport if I can find a way not too. I'm the only progressive rider left from defect the rides and films on a day to day bases. I'm not letting all the young guns pass this old rider without a fight. I still have things to bring to this world.

Joe, he actually graduated a week or two before Naucc, but now he is going go get a job as a math teacher, so he can uni still quite a bit, and then have summers off to travel where ever there are unicyclists, comps, and conventions.
But it all depends on the person you know. Different motivation, different love for the sport.

They have two different names, that should be enough proof. I met Dallas at Naucc, cool guy. I still say, if it wasnt a competition, going straight to rubber on the car handle would of been pretty amazing. In a comp, its too risky though. =p

It's still a good feeling when you do it successfully. In your 2005 vid you had massive handrails but only one in your 2007 vid. What happened? lol. But yeah I used to grind quite a bit but these days I just can't be bothered and would rather not risk hurting myself. It's kinda like when you get good at it you stop because you already have the satisfaction of having done it.

haha thanks man,
thats the thing though, im just riding and having fun though. I can see why shaun wants to make money off of this, but is it really the right time to be trying to be doing this?
but i fully disagree in not having time for to have fun and for it to be progressive at the same time. There have been soooo many time ive gone to the skate park, rode with a few people, having no camera, having a good time, and nailing all these weird ass creative tricks.
so it was really fun, and progressive
If you are going to get people to start paying for your videos, i think the production value is going to have to go up by so much man.
