My friend and I are always debating whether the bass guitar or the standard 6 string guitar is better.
He thinks bass is better, I think 6 string is.
He says bass is more "manly". I agree, but I still think a 6 string is better.
We finally agreed to call a truce, saying that they both have different qualaties better than the other, but are equal in awesomeness.
what is your opinon?

I dont believe in the whole manly part of it, cause i can easily thrash on the guitar, and play the sweetest chords and arpeggios from the bass, and vise versa.
I say its equal though, both sweet instruments.

bass takes more finger strength and finger streching, plus, if your playing frettless, it'll take more personal pitch to play right. I gotta buy one sometime...

Well what he means by manly is that a bass is ocvates lower. It produces a much lower note, which somewhat resembles a deep voice compared to a high voice. Deepness of female voice < deepness of male voice.

That im also not sure about. Its true for some people, but not everyone. Both instruments require finger strength, endurance, and, depending on what youre playing, stretches. Big stretches.
Playing anything fretless requires a bit more accuracy, no matter what instrument, then again, a lot of people like playing fretless because of the slight outoftune sound that can get from it.

Why not compromise and use 6 string bass guitars?
I play a 3/4 size 6 string normal myself, but I have tiny tiny hands.

Why not compromise and use 6 string bass guitars?
Because I beleive that the tuning on a 6 string bass is different from a 6 string guitar.

What is the tuning for the seventh string on a seven string guitar?
its either B or C right?

I have a six string bass, so I guess I get the best of both worlds. I like taking guitar solos and playing them on bass, it sounds sweet. Sweep picking is a bitch though.

why even compare a bass to a guitar. you can get a 6 string bass too, hell you can get 12 string bass guitars as well as 12 string guitars. its basically what you feel like playing. there is no 'better'

Which is better, muni or trials? Which is better, blue or red? It's all personal preference, and each instrument has its own unique timbre, sound, and place in musical society.

Guitar is better. That's why my favorite bands only have guitar players. All bass bands suck.
Of course, everyone who isn't Charlie Hunter also sucks.
edit: Also, frets are for n00bs
