It's been almost TWENTY years since the last installment, but the buzz is, (and with Spielberg directing) it's gonna be well worth the wait!:D

I'm going to say "no, it isn't" and I'll cite Star Wars, episodes 1,2, and 3 as evidence against this film from the pet cemetery.

I'm going to say "no, it isn't" and I'll cite Star Wars, episodes 1,2, and 3 as evidence against this film from the pet cemetery.Well, the last three (preqels?) star wars didn't have any of the great [human] characters like ford, and none had Spielberg at the helm! Don't stay away because those movies sucked, I think you'll be more than pleasantly surprised!:D

I want to see Indiana Jones as much as the next guy, but this is a delicate task-- following up to a movie series that topped itself 3 times in a row, I've got to ask: Are they focusing on a story line or a gimmick?

Personally, I'm waiting for T4 and the inevitable war with the machines.

Edit: And Natalie Portman was in the Star Wars "pringles", how can such a great actress choose perpetually horrible roles?

I want to see Indiana Jones as much as the next guy, but this is a delicate task-- following up to a movie series that topped itself 3 times in a row...The second movie (Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) may have topped the other two at the box office, but it was stupid and not nearly as good as numbers 1 and 3. The question is, where will #4 fit in? And I'm going to allow for Harrison Ford to be 20 years older if the timeline in the movie does, but that would put it somewhere in the 1950s, supposedly, which isn't the impression I've gotten...

To be fair, #2 had all of the visual effects that an Indiana Jones movie should have.

To be fair, #2 had all of the visual effects that an Indiana Jones movie should have.I still have to disagree. I prefer visual effects of things that are at least *slightly* more believable. Two examples:

- Using an inflatable raft as a parachute for three people, which happens to stay right-side up, to land on a snow-covered mountain peak, to then catapult them off a cliff, where they continue to remain right-side up, to land in a tropical jungle. Did that one bug anyone else?

- An underground roller coaster, and everything that went with that nonsense. Stopping the cart with his shoe? That was great (and funny) and could still have been done without all the stupidity and physics-busting stuff that came along those tracks...

Oh, like you've ever been in a temple of doom...Maybe a *ride* by that name? They have something like that at Disneyland. You ride in a large "jeep" that bumps and bounces all over the place while it drives along a flat roadway. It must look awfully silly from the side!

Don't get me started on how a big bowl of water can fill an underground system of caverns.Yeah, and come shooting out the ends, miles later, eroding the cliffside (this is after passing through huge rooms with lava at the bottom... But I figured my two examples would be enough...

yep, 1957 to be exact.Way cool. Duh, that explains the lady with Russian accent. Maybe it will be Sputnik or space-race related? That was in 1957...

I think you meant to post that in the other thread, the one about the Top Thrill Dragster? Anyway, Millenium Force is the best roller coaster in the world*. The ride is still going 72mph when it hits the brakes at the end. Most coasters don't even get up to 72 on the first hill (92 for this one; it's all about the speed).

* I haven't ridden every roller coaster in the world; it's just my favorite, and I've ridden a lot of them

If you meant to post that here, I'll toss out that the difference between a roller coaster and a mine cart is that the roller coaster wheels are locked to the tracks...

When "Raiders" first came out, I saw it 13 times and took dates to nine of them (okay, one of the girls was my sister, but it still counts).

Roger Ebert, Chicago Tribune film critic, saw it at Cannes and gave it a 3.5 stars (out of 4), saying that if you like the franchise, you'll like the film; if you don't, there's no point in going.

I'll be going, thank you very much.

Well, the reviews from both regular folk and actual paid critics are lukewarm at best. But I'm still going to see it later today and decide for myself. I'm only hoping it to be fun, escapist fare, and not really expecting more than that.:)

a load of my friends went to see at 5 mins past midnight the day it came out, apparently it's quite self-referential but good, particulalry if you're a fan of previous indie movies. I saw the later half of temple of doom for the first time a couple of weeks ago, will deffinitely have to get hold of the trilogy after exams.

Started of well but got increasingly more silly.
And the end is just super silly.

Still better than Temple Of Doom though.

And this is a surprise to whom?

Saw the latest Indiana Jones yesterday. I actually thought it was pretty good. Better than either of the other two sequels. Silliness is to be expected and for my money it does not take anything away. (If I'm to accept the power of the ark of the covenant, why not what goes on in this one?) Harrison Ford deports himself quite well for a coger and it was nice to see Karen Allen again and Cate Blanchet as a villain.

Two bits stick with me though.

During the scene in the diner when Ford and Shia Leboeuf, of whom I'm not fan, are talking, directly between them and standing at the counter several feet away was a bobbysoxer in a tight skirt with a very nice bottom. (My wife did not notice). But she was there for most of the conversation and I can't help but wonder why. Nothing is accidental and if you were looking at either of the two stars she was right in your line of sight. Seemed to me having her there added nothing to the scene but a distraction.

The other item, one which I was a little bothered by, is the humorous treatment of nuclear testing. In the context of a Dr Strangelove it's one thing, but here it was just off-putting.

On the whole though, I thought I got my money's worth.

That line was (first) used in the film, The Untouchables (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094226/quotes) and spoken by the Sean Connery character. I knew when I heard it in this one that I'd heard it before. You made me look it up.

Done with National Treasure 2. Pretty poor acting and cheesy adventures. Not nearly as good as the first one.

Now back on track, I'd like to see the Indy Jones movie, but as always, I refuse to pay the $8 for a theater seat, so I'll wait for it to come out on DVD.

I actually thought it was pretty good. Better than either of the other two sequels.I liked it much better than Temple of Doom, but not as much as Last Crusade. Yes it was great to see Karen Allen again, but her character seemed to be quite subdued. She didn't seem to do much. She's a feisty character, but there were several characters together so I guess there's a limit to what each can do?

Two bits stick with me though.I agree with you on the bomb test. Nobody would have survived what Indy did. And why all the detail in the homes? Furniture? The TV on? Anyway I had a feeling about that neighborhood as soon as I saw it from a distance. I started un-believing it would be a nuclear test when I saw the laundry on the line and the fully-furnished house. But some of that was actually done in real nuclear tests, to see damage in detail. Just not in every house. Also I didn't like when Indy pronounced "nuclear" the same way as our president. :(

But a chick with a nice butt in the background? I hate to say this but I don't think I noticed her. I was more aware of all the superhero moves. There's a limit to the number of times you can jump from one moving vehicle to another before something goes wrong, or to how long you can stand on top of a moving vehicle (having a sword fight) before you fall off, or get knocked off by foliage.

And how does a buzz-saw-mobile turn rainforest into a road? Especially after it's been destroyed? Oops.

But overlall we found the movie quite fun and entertaining, with some good lines.

I refuse to pay the $8 for a theater seat, so I'll wait for it to come out on DVD.Another reason CA is inferior to Illinois; movie tickets only cost $8 there!

Went to go watch the new Indiana Jones last night. I really enjoyed it. It's think it's been done in the Indiana spirit. There is a fair amount of cornyness and some unbelievable action bits, but they follow the original movies themes. Having watched the 3 original movies many times the latest one is what I would have expected and glad that it did not disappoint.

Those 2 things were so rediculous I couldn't stop laughing. The start was also pretty funny, and very stupid. Might I add the mine cart did a jump about 10m then landed back on the tracks. Why put such stupidness in an otherwise great movie and trilogy? lol

I hope to see the new one soon BTW.
