Assuming it is.

I dunno, it's pretty standard here for house-cats.

Is she looking for ceiling cat (http://www.ceilingcat.com/img/ceilingcat.jpg)?

i remember when i first saw that picture, i loled all of the computer room.
De-clawing: if cats where de-claws then they wouldn't be able to do all the fun things makes having a cat worth while. Like running up the curtains and looking at you with a really worried expression or getting them stuck in the carpet and falling over.

I think the funnest thing to do with a cat is make them chase the laser pointer around the room. :D

Im not ever having a cat declawed. I was looking it up, and it seems horrible. Really its only an American thing. In other countries its very inhumane or illegal.
I like your cat though. I have 3 kittens running around my room right now. Well, they ahve been under my bed since birth, and now have found my unicycle and sleep behind those.

de-clawing cats is cruel, how are they supposed to climb?if you dont want to be chasing your pets up a curtain, get a rabbit:p nice pictures though, but i think hes upside down, and side ways, he might get a bit dissy there.
EDIT: wow thats confusing, theyre dated 11 may 2.07pm, its only half ten here ,oh this is strange, i hate time zones, they confuse me.

as for de-clawing. dont do it! you would be upset if someone removed your fingernails. you would not be able to pick things.

Its not just the fingernail, but a whole bone they have to remove. I heard the surgery is painful, and the recovery is too, specially cause the cats still have to walk, run, jump and everything else they do.
I guess a lot of times, part of their paws can get ripped off, and during the surgery, the legs can be permanently paralyzed.

My cat always used to claw at our furnature and rip the couch all up. When we got new furnature we also get the cat de-clawed. I don't think its very cruel at all.
A funny thing to do with cats is put tape on their feet. It's really mean and you probably shouldn't do it. But it is kinda entertaining to watch them walk funny and shake their legs really fast.
That's an amazing pussy, Tom! I love it! I never knew you had one!
As for de-clawing, it sounds just plain terrible to me. If you're so worried about your prescious furniture, why do you get a cat in the first place? It's an animal and it will do what it has to do. If I came to your house and you told me you de-clawed your cat to save your furniture, I'd probably climb your cupboard and piss all over your sofa from it. Then set it on fire when it's dry. Probably not, but I'd feel like doing it, I'm sure.
It's one thing to make an animal your pet, but quite another to make risky, dangerous and painful operations on it to protect your silly bourgeous property.
Grr...

Yeah, seriously.
For a cat, clawing releases a slight odor and thats how they mark what is theirs in a way.
Have a spray bottle and spray the cat with water when its doing something you dont want it to, and it will learn quickly.
Also, a scratch pad costs $3. And they are usually scented with cat nip. Buy one of those and thats all the cat will scratch.
I dont know, to me, besides the whole cruelty part about it, I dont like declawing because most people do it for an easy why out, a lazy way around taking responsibility for their animal.

I have to be honest, until I read this thread I'd never heard of cats being declawed before.
What a horrible thing to do.
You might as well remove all their teeth so they don't bite anything either.
And shave all their fur off so they don't shed any on your precious carpet.
And while you're at it, stick a cork up their bum so they don't poop anywhere.

oh your nice! thats a cool cat, not dog food.Seriously, they're much more likely to be eaten by coyotes or raccoons; especially coyotes, a friend of mine moved to house along a greenbelt well known for coyotes, the cat was permanently gone within a week.

Have a spray bottle and spray the cat with water when its doing something you dont want it to, and it will learn quickly.Alternatively you can place your thumb above one of the cats ears, your index finger above the other ear and fold the cats ears down. Most cats hate it.
As for de-clawing cats... well nobody seems to think of the cats welfare when they are denied the most pleasurable thing ever, once they've been castrated or spayed...

What a cute cat Tom!!! She looks like one of mine!
I think declawing is a stupid American thing to do. If you don't claws, you don't want a cat.

Please, keep your 'made'ness and your 'cousing' to a minimum in this thread. My cat does not wee all over your stuff, although i am sure she would not hesitate if she could wee far enough.

I asked about declawing ages ago when we got a kitten.
http://www.unicyclist.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38113
We had a pretty good discussion on it. I'm all for cat declawing of indoor cats, which ours is. Chrissy the Cat lives a wonderful, loved life and has no ill effects from her declawing. So now we have both, a wonderful pet and the enjoyment of nice, expensive, leather living room furniture free from shredding. It's a great combo.

I cant see the photos cos im at school, but you must try putting tape on the side of a cat, or on its back. hilarious results.

my brother cut the whiskers off one of our cats once. She spent the next two weeks sitting in the same spot twitching.
Mum was as mad as a Polish Hatter in a trenchcoat of margerine.

Just wondering, did you ever try to train your cat to not scratch the furniture.
Thats what ive done with all my cats, Ive gone through 30ish by now, and none of them would scratch our furniture. They also hated the sight of any water bottle too. =p

We did. But even with all the training, cats will still be cats occasionally. They also tend to get mad at different things like not being fed when they want and then take out their anger in naughty ways.
We've found the same to be true with dogs. I spend a lot of time training our dogs (Brian Kilcommons methods). But even with all the training, their dogginess will still overcome the training every so often.
In short, animals are unpredictable by nature...you know, a lot like teenagers.
So, ehh, Yoopers... Do you give Valium to your teenagers in the house? To keep the furniture clean?
I still think that anyone who declaws a cat to save their sofa is evil.
