Just happened! Two women in a small car rammed into my front retaining wall just moments ago! Sounded like a bomb went off! cops and paramedics out front now. They're pretty shaken up but apparently ok. Both airbags deployed.

jk.WTF? I didn't show their faces. The first three pics show the damage to my wall. the last two are just long shots of the scene. It's pretty generic stuff. No blood and guts. Plus it's not everyday that someone SLAMS into my property! So I thought it was worthy of a post, so relax man!:)

"All of a sudden, this wall came outta nowhere!"

Or something like that. That's what they'll be telling their friends, insurance company, etc. :)

It's always funny how people describe accidents they've been in. Unless it's an un-funny accident; not much funny about people being majorly injured or killed. But drivers rarely blame themselves, and passengers rarely blame their own drivers. When you read about accidents in the newspaper it always seems to say something like "...when the driver lost control and ended up hitting a wall." So what we always want to know is that caused said loss of control? Could have been a mechanical issue with the car but that's only a tiny percentage of such accidents.

Also I think media coverage of accidents, when they get covered, should mention whether the occupants were wearing seat belts, especially if they were injured or killed. It makes a great reminder. Fortunately these ladies were protected by their airbags, as well as probably seat belts.

Thanks for sharing Terry, it is always nice to know what happens to the members of this community.Yeah I was literally rocked out of my chair while I was editing my video, and thought a bomb had gone off! Becuase the wall is on my property, the shock wave virtually rumbled throughout my house and it just felt like an earthquake!

But yeah, it was good news that they were ok; actually, I was surprised when the passenger of the crashed car knocked on my door a while after the accident, asking to use my bathroom!:p

Dead people as a whole give very unsatisfactory descriptions.

Terry, do those two differ somehow?

Terry -- glad you weren't crushed*. Did anyone say anything about what happened? Were they avoiding a squirrel? Or maybe they have something against unicyclists (a hate accident)? :)

John -- Regarding the neutral language and lack of blame... I rarely use the word "accident", because I believe most accidents are not accidental. The word "collision" is much more neutral. It simply means "a forceful striking together". No connotations of blamelessness. Whereas "accident" means "an event or condition occurring by chance or arising from unknown or remote causes". Yeah, right.

Those multi-car left lane pile-ups where a line of cars rams into each other, for example, is 100% preventable -- simply by allowing additional (sane) following distance. Multiple cars traveling one car length apart at 70 MPH virtually guarantee a collision if the procession suddenly needs to stop (say, if the highway backs up and comes to a sudden stop). One can hardly call such a direct and obvious consequence "accidental".

It's like Terry's guests who "dropped in" -- if you stop looking out your moving vehicle's window long enough it's no accident when you hit something.

* - there! now don't say I never said anything nice to you... :)

You watched Hot Fuzz.

So, whats up now? Anything happening out of this?

You watched Hot Fuzz.No idea what that even is.

I haven't owned a television in six years. I watch zero TV. I read somewhere that most people under-report the amount of TV that they watch. I can accurately say that I watch no TV.

I leave my tv on almost 24/7. I like the background noise. I dont really watch it all too much, but I kinda do cause I read the subtitles from the corner of my right eye as I type and do computer stuff. =p

Anyways, Hot Fuzz is a movie, a pretty good one too, where in one scene a guy said there was an accident, and the other guy explains to him that it is not an accident, but a collision.

Your post made me think of that scene.

No TV? OMG, I don't know if I could live without my regular doses of Family Guy and Get Smart reruns!:oYou can always buy DVDs. I know I'm missing a lot of good stuff on television (and a lot of garbage), but I hate the way it sucks you in. They keep showing you ads for other shows and some actually look interesting. Then you start watching more and more. DVDs have previews that try to do the same thing, but they have two things working in your favor (allowing you to be a bit more discerning) -- you have to drive to the store and spend money. So it's easy to ignore them unless it's something you really want.

Jerrick -- I can't stand the sound of a television in the background. I can't think until it goes off. And I hate when someone tries to talk to me while the TV is going. It makes me think they have one ear on the TV and one ear on the conversation. Do you really want to talk to me or not? Hit the mute button! I only want the sound of one person talking at a time (TV included). But I'm just funny that way.

That describes me so well!

The only times I watch tv is when I'm at somebody's house, and then it's accidental, I don't go there to watch tv.

DVDs all the way!

I know what you mean. Somehow, the tv in the living room gets up really loud. I hate it.

The volume of my tv stays at 6 when im at my desk. Thats loud enough for me to hear it just fine. 8 when im on my bed watching the late night anime shows, which is the only time I actually watch it instead of read it.

Another reason I like the tv on (Or music) is cause my computer is right by my tv, and my room is kinda small, and I hate the silence of my room at night and all I hear is just the clicking of the mouse when im editing videos or something.

But really I could take it or leave it. No tv is fine for me, having one by me works too.

When I move out I doubt ill have tv to watch. Ill have a sweet tv, but nothing to watch on it except movies and use it when I play games.

I rarely use the word "accident", because I believe most accidents are not accidental. If asked, I'm sure the women in the car would claim they were not trying to hit the wall. :p

"Accident" still works though usually I use crash or something.
