JOINT DANISH-CANADIAN UNICYCLIST TEAM TO COMPETE!

Thirteen international teams have registered for Ride the Lobster, Nova Scotia's
800 km, five-day unicycle marathon June 16-20. MANY MORE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REGISTERING.

Three recent entries are Team Nova Scotia, the Hans Islanders and the Surly Speed Goats.

Eric Morneau and Steven Plumridge from Cape Breton Island, the "claws
of Nova Scotia" join Beth Amiro of Halifax for the competition as Team Nova Scotia.

Signe Gjerdling Jensen, Norresundby, and Thomas Olsen, Glostrup, Denmark, have teamed up with
Vancouver's Todd Sankey. They are the Hans Islanders. Hans Island is
at the heart of a territorial dispute between Denmark and Canada. Both
claim the uninhabited island located at 80 degrees north, 66 degrees
west, a spot between Greenland and Ellesmere island in the high Arctic.

Morgan Griffith, Vevay, Indiana; Dan Hansen, Minneapolis; Dave Krack, Butler, PA, and Michael Sabourin, Peacham, VT. are the Surly Speed Goats.

Team Yellow Line Fever, Totally Doable and Yam Power are Californian entries.

Team Venus is an all-female contingent, American Mojo is two
Vermonters and a Rhode Islander and the Korean Dream Teams' name
speaks for itself.

The United Kingdom is sending three teams: the Goonies, the Lost
Wheelers and the Old Peculiers.

Toronto's Team Atlas rounds out the field up until now.

Current records show 115 riders from around the world are qualified to ride.

Kris Holm, the "Wayne Gretzky of unicycling" and Florian Schumplf, world famous Swiss unicycle innovator and manufacturer, will be attending along with Madame Schlumpf.

Guinness World Record holder for most distance in a day on a unicycle, Sam Wakeling, a 22-year old attending university in Wales, has confirmed he will attend. Along with Mr. Wakeling, previous record holder, Dr. Ken Looi from New Zealand, will race with other Kiwi riders. Sam's distance in a day record is 454 km.

RTL's five event stages are eager to get on with their work which culminates in nine weeks time, on June 16. Support from the one hundred and thirty six communities through which the race will pass has been overwhelming.

The Ride the Lobster Racing Society, a non-profit organization, is pleased and gratified to have as a major event sponsor FLYHALIFAX.COM. the marketing organization for the Robert Stanfield Halifax International Airport.

In the Annapolis Valley, Lawrencetown's BRITECH Information Systems is generously providing the technology and work force in what, in a race filled with firsts, is yet another first. Riders will have GPS batons and the entire race will be mapped to Google Earth and available online in near real time.
