when I started, I backed up against a fence on some firm flatish grass, tilted
forward a little and when I started falling I just pedalled to keep up, until I
fell off! this of course is a bit of a 'crash and burn' method but I learnt in
less than 2 hours. I use a similar method when teaching at my uni class...
firstly have my students holding a wall sitting on the uni, rocking back and
forth, then riding a little along the wall.. but only unitil they get used to
how the wheel responds and no longer. Then I turn them directly away from the
wall and to the tilt thing, making sure they do not bend at the waist, his
causes major jerkyness! I have taught over 40 students this way and all with the
exception of half a dozen or so, have gone 15m in a straightish line in less
than three hours. I am quite a hard tutor and there is minimal resting. I have
found in an intense session they respond quicker. of course they have to be in
the right frame of mind though. from the first time people ask how they learn,
the answer is usually "flat out!"
hopr that is of some help..
