Ironically, I was reading about how Cokers come with warnings to not ride faster than you can run.

I was riding my 2-week-old 29" today with new shorter cranks that I proudly fixed on myself. I went without guards because i was just going to be around the neighborhood and terrain was flat - this is the first time I'm going without guards on my 29".

On the home stretch, while I was speeding along, a crank came off.

It went clunk.

I went thud.

Then I skidded and rolled a bit.

The pedestrians were stunned because my bottle flew out and got flung a meter in front of them.

So anyway, my knees, my elbow, hip are scraped. A knee's twice the size as the other but I can surprisingly still walk ok. There're light scratches on my nose and cheek but they're blending in with my zits so it's fine.

I think it's pretty established that I'm a pubilc hazard now.

Lesson learnt: I've never been a fast runner. Oh, and always wear guards.

Ouchie! sounds like it hurt a bit. I would try locktighting the cranks, or something else lol, like trying to make sure their on lol. But ow... That'd hurt a lot

Lesson learnt: attach the cranks and all other parts properly and guards aren't needed.

Call me insensitive, but don't tell us about your injuries unless you've got hilarious video evidence of their occurence :p

Laughing at them is pretty malicious if you think about it.

I'll agree to the maliciousness of it... but not to the un-hilariousness of it. Maybe it's my violent flesh nature, but I love videos of people konking their heads, if there's no SERIOUS injury involved. Obviously I don't like seeing people have arms torn off, or legs snapped in two...

You're pretty much agreeing with me, then. We haven't seen any evidence of her injuries.

My advise is... let them eat cake.

BTW, Hope you're ok after the fall. Just brush yourself off and get back on the uni.

Oh man, I remember my first faceplant.

There is a concrete ledge, thats about 1 foot wide, and its about waist high, and I was trying to rolling hop onto it. I couldnt get the height really, so I was really pushing myself to get this.

I ended up hitting right on the edge, but not far enough to pull myself up, but back enough that the wheel slipped and went flying behind me, and next thing I know is my face just got slammed into the dirt.

It was a hard hit, cause I was dizzy and kinda confused after the hit, and I was by myself, so I just laid there for about 10mins until everything became clear.

I ended up riding to my friends house, and I guess there was lots of dirt and some blood on my face, which makes sense, but I didnt even bother to check until getting there.

It made me scared of the ledge for a few days, but then I went back and got it. I wish I got it on video, cause it would of been something id love to watch again and again and again.

I haven't had a 'faceplant' (yet?) but there has been twice when I have been grateful, as the ground rushed towards me as I tumbled off my N36, that I was wearing a helmet and could just turn my head to take the impact on my helmet rather than my face.

Here you go! Pics.

The first one's of the knee immediately after, before it reached max girth. You can see that one leg's larger than the other in the next pic which I took 10 minutes ago. I can't walk properly today apparently. Spoke too fast on the I can walk fine part.

My face is surprisingly fine today.
