This guy Jason at my work is nicknamed Hosty (like the snack brand Hostess, just with an 'ee' at the end). He doesn't really know why.

Dave, original I know but most of my friends are known by versions of their surname as we went to public school, Scrote and Lucy (both guys) stand out particularly.

A couple girls like to call me 'Matty'. I've been called 'Marty' before as well.

Mostly just variations on 'Matt'...a few people call me 'Shubert' (that's my last name).

Some folks call me Ringo, because my current driver's license photo looks like Ringo Starr, (particularly when xeroxed for the folks in the transportation department where I work)

or BillyTheMountainReally?

In the marching band in high school, the drum instructor gave me the nickname Doc. I never knew why, other than being an intellectual type (I wasn't interested in studying health-related topics at that time). Only a few people still call me Doc or The Doctor. Back then, some people called me Dave and some people called me Doc. But another drummer was named Butch. I don't think that was his real name. But that was the ONLY name you ever called him. My nickname wasn't quite up to that level (where people don't even know your real name).

The cool thing about nicknames is that you can't give one to yourself. And only cool people can give out nicknames. I mean, not just anyone can rename another person. Some deprived people never got a nickname. How sad that must be for them. If you need a nickname, I can't help you. I'm not cool enough. Ask harper for a nickname (follow the yellow brick road). Maybe you can't even ask. You either get one or you don't.

Tuco - after the guy Eli Wallach played in The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Some say I laugh like him.

It used to be Rebar.

when I was back for the second time at the university (CS department) I was nicknamed "Papi" (which means grand-Dad) because I was the oldest student around (I was 35) ... Well now I am a real Grand-Dad.
All my friends use my family name ... which by the way is a nickname (means "loved one" :p ! may be one of my ancestors was an ardent girl chaser :p ).

edit: well not quoting the usual "bear" ....

At school I was briefly called Fritz the Shitz. The reason is beyond stupid. My surname is Chambers, and this led to the usual chamberpot, potty and so on. I happened to mention that my brother had been born in Germany and, through an amazing feat of mental gymnastics by one of my classmates, I (not my brother) became Fritz.

Thankfully, I was not caught for murdering said classmate. :-)

how did you get ducttape?
When I first started working at cub scout day camp I had to pick a camp name and one of my friends suggested Ducttape, so i went with it and it's just kinda stuck, none of the staff from the last 3 years know my real name because ducttape is easier to remember and a lot of my friends at school call me it too..

I got called "Evil Nick" my 1st semester of college... One of my roomates was listening to the song "Evil Dick" by Body Count, and being funny he started calling me Evil Nick, and I started using it for gaming and stuff. It often gets shortened to just "Evil" :)

The Stud abides.

Me:

1. Clark Kent, because I wore those type glasses.
2. Lightning, from my coworkers because I worked so fast.
3. Lightfoot, by my employees, because, "You never expect it, but man you just turn around and there he is."
4. Stealth, by my friends, because I keep a low profile - which, by the way, I now find hard to do when riding a unicycle.

Stud, the Stud, Studly, Mr. Studly, His Studliness, What-a-Stud, Stud of StudsWell, you get the prize for the longest and most redundant nickname. People must have to plan ahead for when they want your attention.
