I didn't know 7th and 8th graders could be mature.

Hell, I didn't even know seniors could be mature.

7-8=13 years olp aprox, triball. More mature as in, not talking about what they saw on nick last night. and no, not Middleschool drama schenanigans unless that what the crowd wants to talk about

I will be doing my student teaching at the local middle school next fall. Most likely, I'll be teaching 6th grade math. Eventually, I'll be teaching high school math, though.

Bruce,

Remember the following:

1) No prayer in the classroom!
2) No illegal alien/undocumented worker jokes in the classroom! Some of your student's parents may be just that.
3) Some of your students will be gay and not all of them are concerned that they're going to hell because of it.
4) Not all middle schoolers, incredible as it may seem, are dying to learn to unicycle. Live with it!

I have to disagree here with your number 1 comment. I've heard plenty of teachers pray in the classroom. They're usually one line prayers muttered under the breath, like "Lord help me!" or "Lord, what did I get myself into?" but prayers all the same.

Are you sure about that? I consider each math paper a work of art. Math homework that is turned in will need to be beautiful, readable, and well thought out. Each paper will need to be very presentable and even suitable for hanging (notice I did not say that kids need to be hanged).

Actually, we tend to have a lot of fun in my classes. The other day, I had the whole class singing YMCA and doing the motions.

I know what you mean. We've talked about that in some of my education classes. Thing is, when I substitute teach in some of the classrooms today, I see some pretty bad stuff. I'm sure I won't be perfect, but I tend to relate to kids much better than I see some of the teachers doing these days. Come sit in my classes and we'll have some great times.

Hmm, okay, lemme tell you about my 8th grade school class. Half the kids lives depend on skating, football, or making others lives' living hells.

EXAMPLE: Me and 3 or 4 friends are playing soccer. A fat lard feels it's necessary to pick up the ball and toss it to his idiot friends for 10 minutes. Once they got bored, they punted it FAR from us into a baseball diamond. For some moronic reason, my friend (who owned the soccer ball) had to sit out for the rest of the day because the teacher confiscated the soccer ball and he asked for it back. We went and asked him why he was sitting out, so about 5 of us got in trouble because he was "on the wall". Just one day in the life of my middle school. If you want, I got a WHOLE mental list of things I could go on with about my school and why it should be destroyed in an air raid by a B-29 Bomber.

But other than the retards and power hungry teachers, my school can be alright...sometimes.

Having met Burce, I know he's going to be a great teacher for 7th & 8th grade math. Bruce actually reminds me of my 7th & 8th grade math teacher. Large guy, great sense of humor, and always had fun. He taught me some valuable lessons that I still remember today.

My favorites of his little jokes:
I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw. He'd often say that when a student caught on to something

Close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and dancing girls. He'd often say that when your answer was close but not correct

And my favorite

But other than the retards and power hungry teachers, my school can be alright...sometimes.By "retards" are you attempting to insult or degrade a certain group of your fellow classmates or are you referring to the Special Ed group? Either way there are much better words to describe what you are trying to convey.

There have been several recent discussions on this, let's all play nice and not use words like that.

I remember in my middle school we had a "no backpack" rule where once we got into school in the morning we had to keep our backpack in our lockers. This meant that I had to carry all my books in my hands all day for at least 3 or 4 of my classes since we only had 3 minutes in between class and that was not enough time to go back to the locker and exchange books and then make it across the building and/or outside to a class in a trailer. Other than that, I didn't mind middle school so much from what I can remember.

Right, I apologize. Just that if you were to visit my school for one day...

Today a bunch of jocks and preps were sitting at a table and EVERY single one of them sitting at the table (around 20 or so) were trying to make some stupid noise with their hands and it sounded somewhere between a whistle and an Indian call... The sad thing is that they didn't get bored with it until about 10 minutes or so. They pretty much exceed stupid.

Or you can use it in the same way, sine, cosine, and tangent, and just remember it with o/h a/h o/a or, "oh hell, another hour of algebra'' lol... but the fact it was during my advanced geometry class lol

Edit: i am NOT a middle schooler, im a freshman lol

us too!!!
they said it was some kind of fire hazard or something.
our school is three stories tall...and these aren't small stories, and I was on crutches for two months. If I showed up for a class with one of the more uppity teachers with my backpack, they would tell me to go all the way up the stairs or down the stairs on my crutches...and be back before the bell rang.

So if you broke the rules, you got into "trouble?" Weird.

So if you broke the rules, you got into "trouble?" Weird.I rarely disagree with you, but...

No, he improvised a way to actually carry a bunch of books AND walk with crutches. The teacher was a jerk. There were extenuating circumstances. If I had crutches and the teacher asked me to hobble back to my locker to put away the backpack, I would have put away all my books as well. Returning empty-handed and unprepared for class, what would the teacher have done then? Told me to go get my book? (In which case, I would have returned with it in my backpack -- I guess I have trouble with authority, but I also don't know how to carry things while walking with crutches.)

Maybe the best option would have been to get permission in advance from the principal's office.

Yeah, I deserved that for not thinking at all before posting.

Like seriously, people should start making fun of me now, because for some reason my mind didn't make the connection between "crutches" and "not having use of arms." Sorry for jumping at you, cowsrutterlysexy. You were right, your teacher's a jerk.

And I'm a bit of a moron.

For the yearbook we had nominations for best sport. i nominated unicycling! I think it does have a very slight chance of winning. I believe people will either see it as a joke and vote for it or see it and vote because they seriously think its the best sport ever.

well, you know, unicycling is the best sport ever.
and it isn't even in the dictionary as a verb.
when I write "unicycling" my computer always says it isn't a word.
