I think that it went off due to his hitting the dashboard, I doubt that the sound could produce enough frequency to make it go off.

airbags are dangerous. ironically i just got back from extrication training at my fire department and our leutenant told us a story of an airbag going off and throwing three firefighters from the vehicle while they were helping a patient and two of em had to be transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Is the video staged? Do UK surveillance cameras have audio recording?

It all seems suspicious. The surveillance camera zooms in and there is audio then the camera zooms out for effect.

Plus I have doubts that even massive woofers that cause the body panels to rattle could ever cause an airbag to go off. There is no way that you could even be in the car with those kinds of sound pressure levels.

That shouldn't cause the airbag to go off either. The motion sensor or crash sensor that sets off the airbag(s) isn't located in the steering wheel or dashboard. If airbags went off that easily they would all be recalled.

Lol, I dont think its too real, just cause of the camera work. I know someone could of edited it to zoom in and stuff, which isnt hard, but ive never seen surveillance cameras that record sound.

This does appear to be in the UK because the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car, unless they've mirror imaged the video. So I wouldn't be so sure. Their surveillance technology is much more advanced and prevalent than ours. Their cameras double as police patrol officers. If it's in the UK it's probably a literal robocop hiding in the rafters of the parking garage taking the video.

ya the sensor that sets off the airbag is in the front of the car for front impacts. a short could have set the airbag off. but we shall never know.

A guy actually called Car Talk about this kinda thing a few weeks ago, he was wondering whether or not drumming on the steering wheel while listening to metal might set off the airbag. ;)

and yes of course the video is fake, just like that one of the granny crossing the road and setting off the airbag by hitting the front of an impatient car, airbags won't deploy in low speed accidents, it really takes some wack to trigger the sensor.

Wait till they teach you about hybrids and electric cars. There are places in those vehicles that you don't want to cut or pry.

well yes they are safe during a crash. it's when they go off when your not in a crash that they're dangerous.
