I'm one of those broke-ass gamers that is a gaming fanatic, but never gets to play new stuff. Most of my gaming knowledge comes from sites like 1up, GameTrailers, GameSpot, etc.

I only have a Ps2, and an old SNES and NES, though I just use emulators to play games for the latter two consoles.

God of War is currently my favorite (franchise?).

Uniracers/rally (is one an american version?) is a very awesome game. I play that on my emulator.

I say +1 to goldeneye on N64, especially when you're playing with three mates in the same room... it's so awesome! Same goes for 4 player mariokart on N64.

Ive had a PS2 for about four years now and have about 18 games but last night, and you wont believe this, my dad for no reason what so ever got me a PS3 with rock band and my sister a DS with the cats game. rock band is wicked!

the sonic series on genesis was rly fun and entertaining ...actually more fun than the new sonic games in 3-D i think my favorite game right now when i'm bored would be Grand Theft Auto san andreas for ps2, it is something to do while your bored and don't wana go online and just mess aroudn.....but if i don't awna do that i'll play halo 3 online or Call of duty 4

I'm not a console gamer, aside from the original NES & Gameboy, I do all my gaming on the PC now. PC's used to have the edge on graphics (1024x768 vs 720x480? Please...) and power, but that's changing... Though, since many games now are being released for 3 platforms, maybe that means my gaming PC will have a longer lifespan, either that or by upgrading the video card in a year or something the games will look better than the consoles again ;)

Portal (and the Half-Life series for that matter) has (have) the best story-line I have ever played in a video game. I litterally felt like I was away from reality when playing portal. You'd have to play portal, I don't want to spoil anything for you.

so gears of war for the 360 is one of the best games ever made. the orange box is also great. and of course the classic guitar hero 3.

Has anyone played Bioshock for the 360 and PC?
I have it for the 360 and it is freaking amazing. Awesome graphics with sweet powers to light enemies on fire, electrocute them, turn them on eachother and many more, all wrapped in an excellent storyline. Overall, it's a really fun game.

cod4 is pretty sweet. have u tried america's army. its and army simulation and is more realistic. plus u can get the best gun ever made, the berret .50 cal semi auto sniper rifle with ten round magazine capacity.

I tried it. Almost to the end. I recommend this game to everyone in need of entertainment. Amazing play style really has you thinking sometimes. And I shouldn't forget to mention the hilarious comments the computer sometimes has. It's a really great game. If you're still not interested or don't know how it all looks, watch this:

All of what you said is true, but what got it for me is the atmosphere, notably the sound design. The music is sooo spooky.

its not scary. bioshock is scary. it gave me night scares.:) in dead rising you just kill zombies with whatever you can find.(guns, hammers,axes, crowbars, shopping carts, motorcycles, cars, plants, swords, dumbbells, hats, CDs, chairs, chainsaws, knives, bowling balls, zombie parts, etc.) its loads of fun!

As good as some new games are now, i don't think they'll ever be quite as good as the classic old games and consoles with the shitty graphics and bad music/sound effects. They were far more fun to play than most games are today. What ever happened to the old arcade games in the fish'n'chip shop like these:

As good as some new games are now, i don't think they'll ever be quite as good as the classic old games and consoles with the shitty graphics and bad music/sound effects. I can understand your point and do agree, but a lot of the fun of these games (as i'm sure you would remember) was not just playing them, but being out with your mates having a laugh (whatever) and socialising with others. Now days too many little kiddies spend hours a day just sitting inside playing games and missing all that fun. I even find myself doing a lot these days.

Oh I agree about today's big-name industries caring less and less about gameplay. Why else would there be a new Madden title out every single year (and for that matter, why is LucasArts still in business at all? :p ).

Luckily, you've still got indy dev teams (and a few of the bigger ones, notably Valve) always working on innovative ideas for games. Look at 2007 for a few good examples - Okami, Loco Roco, Bioshock, Rock Band, Orange Box (mostly Portal), I think you get my point.

I don't totally blame the developers for the industry going the way of flashy technology and departing from simple fun - it's an extremely profitable type of business in this day and age, if done correctly. I still think that gaming as an industry is in its very young stages, for the reason you pointed out - gameplay has a lot to evolve into.
