Hey anyone out there know what the best 5 to 6 foot giraffe to buy is? I need one thats light as I skip on it and also breaks down small would be great. Any ideas I have a couple already just standard ones but looking at buying a more professional kind, also is it better to have a 16 inch wheel I normally used 20 inch, anyway anyone out there that can help?

Cheers

Hi there,

Personally, I've had my eye on this one

http://www.unicycle.co.nz/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=PerformerGiraffe

It looks like a very well constructed, strong and durable giraffe unicycle and I hope to get one for myself when I'm a little better at riding.

Please understand that I'm fairly new to unicycling, but this is just a nice one I've had my eye on! If anyone would like to turn around and say it isn't very good, please feel free.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks

Mark Watson

I've got the TX. I haven't done anything too hard on it, but I noticed the frame was slightly bent from when I accidentally fell and didn't manage to catch it before it hit the ground. Still good.

I recommend the Nimbus 3 wheeler. but it looks like it's not available in the UK or NZ...

no the nimbus 3 wheelers are almost impossible! i could ride a 5 foot giraffe after 5 minutes but a 3 wheeler is crazily hard

are you talking about freemounting? that's really hard because it's 6 feet tall... I can't freemount my 3 wheeler yet but I can freemount a 6 footer.

no i used a ladder but its just harder to ride a 3 wheeler compared to a 5 ft giraffe, i havnt free mounted either of them, the 2 wheeler is even worse, its impossible!!

I haven't tried the two wheeler yet, once I'm up on a 5 footer and riding I feel the same as I do on my 3 wheeler just about a foot higher.

Hi there,

Unicaw89 - Do you own this giraffe Uni of which you speak? Is it good?

If you don't already have it, I would get it! I've had my eye on it for a while!

Many thanks

Mark

I'm in Australia and looking into giraffes:rolleyes:
Sorry for the thread-jack (cant find any good giraffe discussion threads) but is this one (http://www.unicycle.au.com/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=UNIGT20N) worth the $155 more than this one (http://www.unicycle.au.com/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=UNIG20)

Hi there,

Personally, I would say go with the more expensive 2 chain version! I have heard stories of the frames on single chain unis bending over time towards the chain. There are other issues people have spoken to me about, and I'm sure some will repeat them on here, but that is my opinion.

Hope this helps!

Many thanks

Mark

Well, i think this type of giraffe (http://www.unicycle.au.com/View.php?action=ProductDetail&Code=UNIGT20N) would be good selection to have. I want one now. :p

Hazmat mentined the Torker 5 foot TX Unistar.

I have no experience except my last two weeks - as it happens I got a Torker and I think their range is good value for money.

That being said, I'd have to fault the Torker on the followng:

Cranks are absurdly short. I mean REALLY short! I've managed to not succumb to replacing them and, after two weeks and now able to freemount, I think I'll just stick with them as they are.

Seat is not able to be adjusted. I'd like to move it back an inch so my centre of gravity is further back relative tothe pedals but I can't. It has implications that apply as you go taller.

The pedals are pretty narrow, which could cause problems when free-mounting.

However, setup is easy, especially tensioning the wheels/chain and making sure the wheel is straight. There are no obvious manufacturing faults or weaknesses and overall I'm as happy as the probverbial pig in sh... It takes the bumps I have inflicted upon it while learning to mount. I'm not giving it back for anything!

1) Well, that's what modding/upgrading is for. :p
2) Torkers are always built to last and are almost indestructible which is also good too also.
3) Good for you and keep up the good work. ;)
