K so people keep on getting angry with me and others for jumping into their threads and being like, yo WTF you talkin about, they are totaly NOT underground and stuff. Well lets just do it here. Post videos, albums, ideas, whatever.

Right now I'm trying to find Secret House Against the World by Buck 65, I used to have it but I lost it in a hard drive crash. I'm also watching alot of Cut Chemist videos.

The Blue Scholars' song from a Dan Heaton video is awesome. The only Hip-hop band I like is Cypress Hill....or is that rap...I would not know:o

I love hip-hop. Personal favorites:

MF Doom(/dangerdoom/viktor vaughn/king geedorah/madvillain), Gangstarr, Ghostface Killah, Zion I, Aesop Rock, DJ Shadow, Madlib(/Quasimoto/madvillain), Kool Kieth(/Dr. Octagon), The Herbaliser, Busdriver, RJD2, Wale, Aceyalone, Heiroglyphics

I know all of them might not be considered "underground", but they are all worth a listen.

EDIT:

How could I forget? Jedi Mind Tricks.

Alot of those I really like too, Busdriver is the shit lately, can't stop listening to him.

DJ shadow is getting boring lately though.

And sorry Goats but I think Jenro sucks. Just my personal opinion, but she just bring nothing to the table for me.

I'm all for gay, lesbian, alien, whatever hip hoppers, but I just didn't enjoy it musically.

I like her a lot... She has soul which a lot of rappers lack IMO. And she might seem "obsessed" with her sexuality but it's hard not to be when everyone's talking shit about you.
I really connect to her music, I love her!
EDIT: straight love songs make me want to vomit too...

Me too, but its like soulja boy meets shaun paul meets lesbian. I don't like that style of music from anybody. It's like bubble gum rap which is terrible, she's also not what I would call clever with her lyrics. To each their own.

Everybody talking shit about her? New to me. Also Why do they make you want to vommit?

This was my first impression-http://youtube.com/watch?v=VyUYkVuf5eA&feature=related... I didn't know if she is always like that, but I don't dig ebonics style lyrics, or very repetitive ones. Also songs dedicated to describing sex, somewhat degrading woman/man, are not something I like. I think hip hop is supposed to be something with more meaning. Maybe some of her stuff is different, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. To each their own.

What I'm saying is, telling Jenro or Qboy that they're making a big production over being gay is like saying that Malcom X or Matin Luther King Jr. were making a big deal about being black.
And I kinda like straight lyrics, but they get boring and old and I like something I can relate to.

I don't mind sex songs at all... Lots of my favorite blues songs are completely about sex... but that's not the only stuff she sings btw. But like you say, each to their own.

wickedbob
2008-02-29, 04:32 AM
I see. I can understand how you can relate to some of her stuff more than I, which probably has to do with why you like it.

Bump.

Thanks to this thread I started listening to Cypress Hill and Jedi Mind Tricks.

Right now I'm listening to a Jedi Mind Tricks instrumental album. It's really schweet. I love instrumental hip-hop.

These haven't been mentioned before, so I'll say: Hilltop Hoods and The Herd.

Jedi has some of THE BEST beats as far as for instumentals go. I dont think there has been anything on that level.

Jedi Mind does have some good beats but as far as being top notch, they don't hold a candle to J Dilla or 9th wonder or other classic producers like that.

But I can't stand JedI mind tricks. I used to be in to them and have two of their cds but it got old. I can't stand their homophobia or their general sound and how the main emcee sounds the same in every song.

I've been listening to some Dj Format alot lately, hes a pretty old cat if I'm not mistaken, from the Coldcut days.

For anyone in need of some Hip Hop history, learn yourself a bit about Coldcut. Those guys really shaped alot of what hip hop is.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Solid Steel Radio yet. Its pretty much like the best Hip Hop radio program I have ever heard. Its actualy only a podcast kind of thing, but its really good and done by Ninja Tune.
They often have special guests aswell which is really cool.
