You're right, you're off to an ill start. If you wanted to start a proper debate, you'd defend your position on the subject. Here, you've only stated your opinion.

How about dueling threads? Maybe whining threads? Singing and dancing threads?

In all seriousness, I hate threads debating politics/beliefs/controversial stuff.

I have my opinions, I will not change them, I don't care about what dumb things some other people may believe, and I know debating with them will not change their mind either, so why should I waste my time?

That's usually the case, anyway. :)

I really like debating threads - I feel I've reached that stage of maturity where I'm open to new ideas and altering my own ideas if I read/hear something that just sounds better. There's no way I could come up with all of my own beliefs on my own, so I'm always keeping my eyes and ears open.

Conversely, I feel obligated to contribute what I have come up with on my own, in the case that someone else feels the same way I do.

I agree.

Debate is interesting, and with political and religious topics, usually there are tons of people out there with different, and interesting, opinions that greatly contribute to the conversation.
