When someone signs a letter with XOXO, we all know that means, hugs and kisses (or the Amerikans do at least, I don't know if that's common in other worlds).
But what I want to know is, does X mean kiss and O mean hug, or the other way around?
I think the X means kiss and the O means hug, but several people I know think the opposite.

I think X is kiss and O is hug but I don't know why.
I think it would make more sense the other way.

X is hug because the lines cross and open on the ends - sort of like the peoples arms. O is the puckered lips.
Thats my perception of it at least.

That's what people say...but I think the O is the hug, because it makes a circle like your arms do, and the X is the kiss, because, I don't know why, but people do kissy smileys like this: :x

I know!! But I'm sure it's the opposite... I just spent a few minutes making kissy faces in the mirror and I guess it looks kinda like an X.
And the O is probably arms...

perhaps you should think of person 1 as > and person 2 as < w/ thier lips puckered up to kiss ... so when person one and person two kiss (not tooo interestingly) they make an x when thier lips touch... an o is a symbol of taking the person in with a hug?
idk about that, but it has always been KISSES and HUGS ... XOXO... doh!
or wait!!! no!!!! its HUGS AND KISSES!!! OXOX ??!!!

I always figured X was kisses simply because the letter X is usually perceived as a more...I guess 'risque' letter in the media, and kisses are more intimate than hugs. That's just my guess though.

I always have thought that X=kiss and O=hug. I never even wondered about it.

I never thought.
I don't think I've ever come across xoxo at the end of a letter before. Not a single time.
I've had loads of xxx, though. So, were they hugs or kisses? I need to know!

Were these letters from Vin Diesel?
X=Kiss O=Hug
There's no doubt about it. I don't care to hear any explanations, that's the way it is.

Well here on Planet Boogie an 'X' is a kiss.
I don't think I've ever noticed a letter signed XOXO.
Sometimes stock cubes but never a letter.

I'll never play noughts and crosses in the same way again.
That's tic-tac-toe to our overseas friends.

My take on it:
X = kiss. "Kixxes" looks kind of the same. Could be an image of puckered lips.
O = hug. Think of someone's arms wrapped all the way around you.
I've never used it either, but I remember letters...
