View Full Version : Navy SEALs

Hey all. I was just wondering if anyone here is in the Navy or knows any SEALs. I've wanted to become a SEAL for a while now. I've been going to the gym and doing some pretty intense running and calisthenics to get in shape. I'm only 15 now, but the early I start training, the better :)
So is anyone here thinking of joining any armed service? Navy, Army, Marines, Airforce, etc.?

It is a last choice for me. I respect anybody that joins the military, but I do not 100% agree with what our country does so I might consider moving.

Read everything you can about Richard Marcinko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Marcinko) and The Rogue Warrior (http://www.dickmarcinko.com/). Good luck, and when you make it, I'd love to meet you.

Keep some perspective my boy. If the difference between loving and despising your country is based on whether there is a Republican or Democrat in the White House then you really need to catch some perspective.
There honestly is not that much of a difference between Republicans and Democrats in the big picture. On the political spectrum they are very close and overlap. If your reality is so partisan that you're considering moving to a different country just because of who is in the White House then you really need to take a step (or two or three or four) back and learn about the US and the government without the partisan flavor.
The people who join the military in branches where they could see combat don't do so because because they are extremely partisan and really love the President. If you join the military based on a purely partisan view then you're going to do well in the military. The people who volunteer and join the military do so for more comprehensive reasons. The reasons that they believe in the military and choose to join are varied but it shouldn't be based on who is in the White House.
Here's a little hypothetical for you. Let's say you did something heroic and got national attention. Let's say the President invites you to the White House for a ceremony because of that. Is your partisan view so vain that you would decline the invitation, or refuse to shake his hand? If your views are such that you wouldn't shake is hand then you really need to get some perspective. Believing in what the US stands for and how the government works is not based on who is in the White House.
I still believe in the US and what it stands for even when my party is out of office and even when my party does things I don't agree with. I would never consider not flying a flag or moving out of the country just because my party is not in the White House.

Becoming a SEAL is kind of like making it into professional sports. You probably need more than just the extreme desire to work toward the goal, there are probably some genetic "gifts" you will need to make the cut. I remember watching a TV special about SEAL training. Brutal! The guys who make it through are not only tough of body, but they have to be extremely tough mentally. They can't be giver-uppers. If you can ride a unicycle you have at least some of that!
I don't know any SEALS personally, but I do know a woman whose husband joined the Navy and became a SEAL, then recently came back from service in Iraq/Afghanistan and was a changed person. Unsuitable as a father to their small child. She had to leave him.

I think they got their £'s and $'s mixed up in that article. The Wikipedia article on the joint strike fighter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-35_Lightning_II) says the plane will be around $63m (USD) each, not £63m (GBP) each. That's a big difference.

It's like the dash between the years on a tombstone. It's not the beginning and ending numbers that matter, it's the life represented by the dash in the middle that counts.
How could you post a picture about 42 without making a Hitchhiker's Guide reference? Your geek card has been pulled. You're on probation now.

Yeah, like a healthy pedophile.
The F14 and B52 are iconic and I don't have a problem with those images.
When you're just running thru google images to find some obscure plane that happens to contain the next number in it's model number it gets a bit much.
But that's just me.
Which is why, I suspect, I'm the only one bitching about it.

Navy, Army, Marines, Airforce, etc.?
i gotta a frend who is going to the airforce here in a year after he graduates,
i dont think i wuld ever want to do that kinda thing becus its really hard physically and mentally and i dont wanna have to go to war,
but i do respect people in the milatary and i respect you for even considering it
although I didn't quite understand that one.
Right click is your friend.

Can we get this thread back on topic by any chance? In a properly moderated forum all the pictured posts would be split off into their own topic, called something like "Gallery of numbered pictures", leaving behind all the genuine replies which lasted up to post 20.
That way, people who want to talk about "Navy SEALs" can do so. Plus people who seek out and post the pictures with numbers can still have fun.
