Further clarification on USA officer duties:
Almost all correspondence re USA is received initially at the Redford address.
From there Carol Brichford sends it out to the appropriate officer: secretary,
treasurer, president, vice president, OOW editor, book orders. As secretary I
receive all requests for information about USA--membership applications, books
and videos on riding, USA members in the writer's area, etc. My job is not to
process your applications or orders, but to answer your initial questions and
send you the appropriate forms which are then filled out by you and mailed to
Redford again. Carol then processes your request and forwards the data you send
to the appropriate officer (treasurer, OOW editor, book orders, etc.). In short,
your correspondence often crisscrosses several states (Michigan, Ohio, Iowa,
Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and others) before it is finally processed. This
clearly is not as advantageous and efficient as a central office handling all
these duties would be, but I doubt that any one club would be able/willing to
handle all these tasks. In addition, our election process is such that it is
unlikely (and undesirable) that we would ever elect all officers from the same
club or area, permitting us to consolidate our various duties.
All of the officers and USA members would certainly welcome any suggestions you
have for streamlining our operation, however, our tardiness is often a function
of structural arrangements that are difficult to overcome.
